My Favorite Quotations Blurb

For many years I collected in a small notebook quotes I ran across that interested me in some way. I carried that little notebook for at least 12 years. Then one day in 1993 my purse was stolen and with it my little notebook. The money, credit cards, and other miscellaneous memorabilia meant little. But, if I could have gotten that little book back, I'd be very pleased indeed. I no longer carry a little notebook, now I write quotes on little snippets of paper that become crumbled and disappear. Or, on pages of notebooks whose pages eventually fill and get filed away or tossed in the trash. So now, maybe here is where I shall keep my little quotes - and maybe you can enjoy them too!

To see the world in a grain of sand
and heaven in a wildflower
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
and eternity in an hour.
- William Blake

Who you are are speaks so loudly
I can't hear what you're saying.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Whether you think you can or you think
you can't, you're right!
- Henry Ford

Experience is not what happens to a man,
it is what a man does with what happens to him.
- Aldous Huxley

You gain strength, experience, and confidence
by every experience where you really stop to
look fear in the face....you must do the things
you cannot do.
- Eleanor Roosevelt

There is a land of the living and a land of
the dead and the bridge is love....
- Thornton Wilder

The heart of a fool is in his mouth, but the
mouth of a wise man is in his head.
- Benjamin Franklin

The future belongs to those who
believe in the beauty of their dreams.
- Eleanor Roosevelt

If you treat an individual...as if
he were what he ought to be and could be,
he will become what he ought to be and could be.
- Goethe

It is one of the most beautiful compensations
of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without
helping himself. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life is a succession of lessons which must
be lived to be understood.
- Helen Keller

Do not look back in anger, or forward
in fear, but around in awareness.
- James Thurber

Though we travel the world over
to find the beautiful, we must
carry it with us or we will
find it not.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

The only life worth living is the adventurous life. Of such a life, the dominant characteristic is that it is unafraid. It is unafraid of what other people think...It does not adapt either its pace or its objectives to the pace and objectives of its neighbors. It thinks its own thoughts, reads its own books, it develops its own hopes, and it is governed by its own conscience. The herd may graze where it pleases or stampede where it pleases, but he who lives the adventurous life will remain unafraid when he finds himself alone.
- Raymond B. Fosdick

What would it be like if you lived each day, each breath, as a work of art in progress? Imagine that you are a Masterpiece unfolding, every second of every day, a work of art taking form with every breath.
- Thomas Crom
