Cindy Morgan
Cindy Morgan
was born in Tennessee. A contemporary Christian singer/songwriter with
a penchant for pop-dance stylings, Cindy Morgan's reputation is built on
her powerful, passionate vocal style and her renowned integrity as a writer.
Not only has she composed the vast majority of her own material, but her
songs have been recorded by Michael English, Sandi Patty, Bebe Winans and
other stars of the 90s gospel scene. Frequently compared to Anita Baker
by dint of her uproarious, committed singing style, Morgan grew up in a
musical family in East Tennessee, where her father was an aspiring country
songwriter (his song, 'Listen', became the title-track to Morgan's 1996
Word Records album). She made her debut for that label in 1992 with Real
Life, a strong collection of songs about which Edwin Smith, of Rejoice
magazine, wrote: 'Morgan's voice falls somewhere between Mariah Carey and
Gloria Estefan, but she avoids being a sound-alike. On top of her unique
singing abilities, Morgan is a prolific songwriter, addressing spiritual
themes without speaking in the usual clichés. Add the hip hop sound
of the streets and she could be the next voice to reach the youth with
the message of the gospel.' 'I Will Be Free', included on the follow-up
set, A Reason To Live, won a Dove Award from the Gospel Music Association
for its shortform video as Morgan consolidated her position. 1996's Listen
was just as purposeful, and, at times, insightful. It saw her move to a
new working relationship with producer/writer Brent Bourgeois after amicably
ending her long-term partnership with producer Mark Hammond.
Albums: Real Life (Word 1992), A Reason To Live (Word 1994), Listen (Word 1996).
