Matthew Sweet
Ex-lead
vocalist of Stryper, Michael Sweet, has come home again. "Honesty",
"Always There For You" and other compositions by Christian Metal/Rock
band Stryper climbed both secular and sacred charts garnering more than
their fair share of critics. With their long hair and black and yellow
spandex, some believed that this band had gone too far. Yet, the shock
came when the band's final release AGAINST THE LAW was dropped by its Christian
label and saw little success in the secular world amidst rumors of the
fall of Stryper's band members. In a short video interview Sweet simply
tells the story of four guys who had strayed from their purpose as we all
do from time to time.
Enter Michael Sweet solo artist (sans spandex). After much soul searching, repentance and refocusing, Sweet returned to the halls of Christian rock with a freshman release that rode the charts from its first day on the stands. Happily the music is reminiscent of the early Stryper sounds from TO HELL WITH THE DEVIL with some early Bon Jovi vocal licks and lyrics such as the rock anthem "J.E.S.U.S" speak of Sweet's renewed hope and commitment. And despite what MTV may think, the video for "Ain't No Safe Way" tops most of the stuff on any video show.
