Steven Curtis Chapman
Any
one who does not know the name and boyish face of Steven Curtis Chapman
has obviously not seen the Dove Awards for the last decade or so. From
the big drum opening of his debut FIRST HAND, it was evident that Christian
music had a new voice. Chapman wasn't the first to bring a southern styling
to pop and light rock (or is it the other way around) but he has indisputably
been the most successful. He's garnered way too many awards to be covered
in this book. To those who have heard his music and/or seen his concerts,
the awards are beside the point. Chapman takes the time to have real life
conversations of hope and encouragement in every song. In 1996, Chapman
headed in a different musical direction with his release SIGNS OF LIFE,
and his hit rocking hit single Lord of the Dance. But no need to worry.
There's more than enough of the old sound shining through to keep old friends
and quality cutting edge new music to keep things fresh. (EDITOR'S NOTE:
Oh yeah, and before we let him forget, he did try to do one tongue-in-cheek,
non-serious, self-deprecating rap song with the help of DC Talk on THE
GREAT ADVENTURE. But don't worry, I don't think he'll do it again. Just
kidding SC2. I think rap music is definitely you!)
