When Marvin, Carvin, Ronald, and Michael Winans released their first project simply titled INTRODUCING THE WINANS, they were sporting a contemporary gospel sound way ahead of it's time. And though Walter Hawkins, Nicholas, and The Rance Allen Group had been using contemporary gospel, The Winans, under the hand of the legendary Andrae Crouch, brought it to the forefront. It is safe to say that many of today's popular contemporary gospel groups would not have seen success if The Winans had not popularized the style.

Many years later, these four brothers are still setting the standards. "It's Time", "Payday", "A Friend" and others have incorporated gospel with the newer sounds of rap, R&B, and soul into a package that is generally accepted even among the more traditional lovers of gospel. That is because no matter what new trail they may be blazing, The Winans have never lost sight of the distinctively gospel sound of their musical heritage, or of the Lord who has given them the songs they sing
