LEST WE FORGET
LET US REMEMBER
(Oklahoma)
© Martha Miranda 2001

We all come face to face
With the terrors of the grave
And we all come face to face
With the horrors of war
We all come face to face
With disease and pain and tears
But lest we forget to remember
Let our hearts be filled with an image

We all come face to face with rage
When we see the innocent fall
We all come face to face with hatred
When there is no, no reason at all
For the deliberate act of the treason of one
To crush little ones 'neath falling cement
And lest we forget to remember
Let our hearts be filled with an image

Let our hearts be filled with an image
Lest we forget what hatred can do
Let our hearts be filled with an image
So we sorrow as though she were ours
And lest we forget that she was one of many
Whose blood mingled with the dust of the earth
Lest we forget to remember
Let our hearts be filled with an image

I am reminded of one who said
Remember my death till I come
He said put the image upon your heart
Lest you forget to remember Me
With all the celebrations each year
And the eating, singing and shouting
I wonder how many have forgotten
Remember my death till I come

We all come face to face with death
When we see the innocent blood
We all come face to face with treachery
When there is no, no reason at all
For the deliberate act of the treason of one
That nailed Christ to the tree
And lest we forget to remember
Let our hearts be filled with an image

I have taken the images
And burned them on my heart
Lest I forget to remember
These deaths until He comes
And every time I look at my heart
It breaks a little more
And my eyes fill with tears of sorrow
As I remember, lest I forget

I pray for America
Whose very streets are stained
With the blood of her own
By the hands of her own
And I pray for broken hearts
That hold so much pain
That only in eternity
Will they be made whole again

We all come face to face
Every day of our lives
With the sorrow of Golgotha
And the horror of Oklahoma
And we all come face to face
With the images of war
So lest we forget the fallen ones
Let us be determined to remember

And in our remembering
Let us remember well the promises
O death, where is thy sting?
O grave, where is thy victory?
If there is any hope
If there is any solace
If there is any peace
It is stored up in the images
If there is any joy
If there is any power
If there is any glory
It is stored up in the images
If there is any healing
If there is any comfort
If there is any immortality
It is stored up in the images
Lest we forget
Let us remember
What is stored up in the images
