Mel G on E!
July 7, 1999

Interviewer: You're married, you've got a baby, youve got an independant career...

Mel G: Yeah

Interviewer:... you've got a mansion. Do you think you are kind of growing out of the Spice Girl?

Mel G: No. Im still scary, I'll always will be. Thats what started us off on this mad exciting journey, you know thats how we got our fans, and then its nice to do things by yourself. Its like the best of everything.

Interviewer: You don't obviously feel that you have to leave the band to do what you wanna do.

Mel G: Oh no no, I couldnt leave my mates, no no no no, and that's what started me off you know thats what started all of us off, is being together as a band.

Interviewer: How hard is it to be yourself when you're surrounded by people who say oh you're so good, you're so great?

Mel G: I'm not surrounded by people who are like that with me, and I don't like it when people are all you know der der der der because I think no I'm not, I'm just me, I know I'm rough round the edges, but that's the appeal and that's what I like. I gotta be real.

Interviewer: So is it hard to handle all that?

Mel G: No, 'cause if it was hard, I would be like that (shaking her head and body) and my hair would be fallling out and I'll be in a complete state. So do i look as though its hard?

Interviewer: No (laughing and shaking her head)

Mel G: (Laughing) Theres your answer. My video is very, very, very strange. It's all about life and death in this video aswell, its very strange, that's the only way to put it really.

Interviewer: Where do the ideas from your videos come from, is it something you come up with or . . .

Mel G: Well, this computer one was actually Jim. He decided that I think it would be good if we did something a bit strange and different. Normally, you know, when we work with the Spice Girls, we kind of say i'd like to do this, but I trust my husband so I just let him get on with it, and I love it.

Interviewer: This follows the work you did with Missy Misdemeanor Elliot on the first track and she said she felt like a groupie having you in the studio, she was so excited to have you working.

Mel G: I think I was more excited as she was, I couldn't believe it, walked in and then i was like, 'Yeah lets do it.'

Interviewer: So when are you coming to Australia?

Mel G: We're gonna go on tour next year. There you go, you heard it first, the E! Australia, ha ha ha, we're coming to you!
