Moses was a descendent of Levi, who was not the eldest son of Jacob.
We learn from this that there are people in this world who do not reach
their potential.
Providence could have made it that the leader of Israel would be the
son of the Reuvenites, the oldest son of Jacob.
In addition, we learn that in the event that no one steps up and takes
the opportunity, a person will be chosen as an alternate. Since no one
from the older tribes, Reuven or Shimon, realized the potential to
lead Israel out of egypt and receive the Torah on Mount Sinai, Moses
was called upon for these great tasks.
