Last night and today was Rabbi Carlebach's Yartzeit
Rabbi Carlebach used to say hello to people so much that it would
take a long time for him to get down the street.
Once his relationship with a non-jew saved someone's life.
A man wearing a yarmulke had his car break down in a crime-ridden
neighborhood. A group of criminals surrounded him and were about
to mug him when a friend of the criminals asked "Do you know Shlomo
Carlebach?"
The man replied, "Yes, everyone knows Shlomo Carlebach, and I am
personally quite close with him."
The friend of the muggers said, "Leave him alone, I like his Rabbi."
The muggers let him go.
In this way, Rabbi Carlebach taught by his actions the importance of
peace between people in the world.
