Rabbi Pinchas of Korecz - born 1726 - died 10 Elul 1791

Rabbi Pinchas of Korecz was a student of mystical texts as well as rabbinics.

Rabbi Pinchas, a.k.a. The Seer of Lublin, is quoted as saying, "The Zohar has kept me alive. The exile is very painful for me to bear, and I can only find relief from it during the hours that I study the Zohar... be heedful not to allow three days to pass without studying the Zohar."

Another thing the Seer of Lublin said was, "I have found nothing more difficult in life than to overcome lying. It took me fourteen years. I broke every bone I had and at last I found a salvation. For the sake of Truth, I struggled for twenty0one years; seven years to find out what Truth is, seven years to drive away falsehood and seven to absorb Truth."

When the famous Rabbi Yisrael Baal Shem Tov was dying, his disciple Rabbi David of Ostrog sadly asked, "Rabbi how can you leave us alone?" The Baal Shem Tov answered, "The bear [i.e. Rabbi Dov Baer the Magid of Mezritch] is in the woods and Pinchas is a sage [referring to the Seer of Lublin, Rabbi Pinchas of Korecz]."
