The Mount Isa Rotary
Rodeo is one of the biggest and richest in the world with prize money of up to $200,000
and
attracts competitors from all around the globe. The Rodeo is held in the middle of August
every year and spans over
3 days starting on the Friday afternoon till Sunday afternoon. Both men and women compete
in various events which
range from Calf Roping, Barrel Racing, Bareback Bronc Riding , Steer Roping and Wrestling,
Team Roping, Saddle
Bronc Riding and Bull Riding.
The pre-entertainment
for the Rodeo weekend is the Mardi Gra (not a gay one either...lol..) held on the Friday
night,
which see 3 main streets closed off. The night starts off with a procession of floats by
local business and charitable
houses all vying for first place set to a theme for that year. The main streets are full
and alive with people enjoying the
food, fun, carnival rides, entertainment and of course the booze. It is a awesome night
for all and one of the highlights
of the Rodeo weekend.
