Outreach: Sharing Our Gifts

For a month each year the congregation holds Sunday afternoon services at the Long Term Care unit of Wrangell Medical Center.

The congregation makes weekly offerings to a local Food Bank operated by the Salvation Army in Wrangell.

Individual members of the congregation are visible--- and sometimes invisible--- in a variety of powerful individual ministries throughout the community.

A few examples:

  • keeping Native traditions alive and meaningful
  • organizing fundraising activities to support people in need
  • ministering to the frail elderly of Wrangell in their homes
  • sharing expertise in carpentry, broadcasting, and music
  • serving on community boards and committees

Sharing our Physical Plant

Alcoholics Anonymous uses a portion of the parish hall basement as a center for their activities in the community. Several meetings are held there each week.

St. Philip's recently shared its buildings with Island of Faith Lutheran (ELCA) Church while their congregation worked to complete construction of a new church building.

The parish hall is utilized by Wrangell Community Services for a weekly cooking and activity group for persons with chronic mental illness and developmental disabilities.

The parish hall is also used for community youth activities, by a Native dance group, and for special events throughout the year.
