The
21st Century (2001-2100)
March 23, 2001 The Russian space station Mir re-enters
the earth’s atmosphere. It had orbited the earth for more than fifteen
years. (Contemporary accounts. Mir is mentioned in the on-line Enterprise
chronology.)
September 11, 2001 Terrorists use three hijacked commercial airliners
to conduct suicide attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City
and the Pentagon in Washington, DC. A fourth plane fails in its attempt
and crashes after passengers wrest control from the hijackers. Thousands
of lives were lost in this horrible tragedy which immediately launched
the United States into a widespread war against terrorism. (Contemporary
accounts.) Entry from the Enterprise exploration timeline: "A
terrorist attack on the United States leaves thousands of innocent
civilians dead, a horrific tragedy that forces all nations of the
world to re-evaluate their values and priorities, and galvanizes the
people of Earth to strive harder to put their differences behind them."
November 14, 2001 The return of the American aircraft carrier U.S.S
Enterprise after its service in military actions overseas was heralded.
(The arrival of the U.S.S. Enterprise was acknowledged through a public
announcement TV spot featuring Scott Bakula dressed as Captain Archer
on this date.)
July 4, 2002 NASA launches Nomad, the first interstellar probe charged with
seeking out new life forms. Nomad was built by the brilliant but erratic
Jackson Roykirk, who's goal was to build the perfect thinking machine
capable of independent logic. Nomad is later presumed destroyed in
a meteor collision. ("The Changeling" (TOS), year given
in script, and Enterprise exploration timeline )
September 18, 2002 CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research)
announces the first controlled production of large numbers of antihydrogen
atoms at low energies. (contemporary accounts)
February 1, 2003 The space shuttle Columbia is lost upon re-entry
into the Earth's atmosphere. (contemporary accounts) Entry from the
Enterprise exploration timeline: "On February 1, the entire crew
of seven aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia is killed when the ship
breaks up in the Earth's atmosphere. President George W. Bush paid
tribute to the crew "These astronauts knew the dangers, and they
faced them willingly, knowing they had a high and noble purpose in
life. Because of their courage and daring and idealism, we will miss
them all the more."
March 2003 Loomis starts work at the blood bank in Detroit. (over
a year before 21st century sequences in "Carpenter Street")
January 3, 2004 The Spirit Rover lands on Mars. (contemporary accounts)
February 2004 Loomis is recruited by the Xindi, who he later suspects
to be terrorists. (two months before 21st century sequences in "Carpenter
Street")
April 2004 Archer and T'Pol arrive in Detroit, Michigan, to learn
why three Xindi-Reptilians have been detected in this time period.
Using 22nd-century technology, Archer and T'Pol scour the city and
locate an abandoned factory where the Xindi are developing a biological
weapon with the help of a local medical worker. (150 years before
"Carpenter Street" - month is a guess - it is clear from
this episode that Detroit, like Los Angeles, has been spared the ravages
of the Eugenics Wars.)
Leading up to 2009 The development of space travel accelerates during
this period, as manned missions to the Moon, Mars, and Saturn are
prepared. (contemporary projections and speculation based on "Tomorrow
is Yesterday")
2009 Captain Shaun Geoffrey Christopher leads the first successful
manned Earth-Saturn space mission, paving the way for the continuation
of manned space exploration. (sources: Enterprise exploration timeline,
"Tomorrow is Yesterday" (TOS).)
2010 The International Space Station (ISS) is completed in orbit
over Earth. This task completed, the U.S. space shuttle fleet is retired.
(contemporary projections, opening sequence to Enterprise).
2018 Propulsion technologies, and speeds, continue to improve. "Sleeper
ships" become a thing of the past. This may be a result of the
development of the impulse drive. (sources: "Space Seed"
(TOS) and Enterprise exploration timeline. ) Note: there are however,
similar vessels that remain in use for interplanetary missions - please
see 2070
2018 The Dax symbiont is born on Trill. Dax's first host is Lela
Dax, who becomes the first woman to serve on the Trill Council. (sources:
"You Are Cordially Invited" (DS9), Star Trek Encyclopedia)
2020 The U.S. Government creates special Sanctuary Districts for
homeless people and the unemployed. ("Past Tense, Part I"
(DS9)) Continuing tensions between the United States and European
Union stalemate the UN. Talks begin on revamping the bloated UN
bureaucracy,
reshaping it along the lines of the 19th century 'Congress of Europe'.
The United States returns to the moon for the first time since the
early 1970's (contemporary projections)
2024 The Bell Riots, led by Gabriel Bell, break out in San Francisco
on Earth. ("Past Tense, Part I", "Past Tense, Part
II" (DS9))
2025 The reunification of Ireland. ("The High Ground" (TNG))
2025 A hypersonic space plane begins service between orbit and Earth.
(speculation based on the opening sequence to Enterprise)
2026 Buck Bokai, a shortstop from the London Kings, breaks Joe DiMaggio's
hitting record in the game of baseball. (DS9)
2028 Joe DiMaggio's hitting record is broken by a member of the London
Kings baseball team. (Date given in "The Big Goodbye")
2030 A famous novelist writes a classic based on the theme "let
me help" - "The City on the Edge of Forever 1930 plus 100
years)
2030 A permanent settlement is established by the United States on
the moon. (contemporary projections)
2031 Captain Mitchell is born on Earth (speculation. assumes Captain
Mitchell was 40 whenthe colony ship left for Terra Nova).
Suval, later to become Vulcan's ambassador to Earth, is born. (speculation.
Assumes he was 23 when sent to Raytan "Cease Fire")
2032 Zefram Cochrane, inventor of the warp drive, is born. ( Enterprise
exploration timeline 87 years before 2119), working backwards from
"Metamorphosis" )
October 19, 2032 Lieutenant John Kelly, piloting the Ares IV command
module in Mars orbit, reports the approach of a large unknown object
seconds before he and his craft vanish. Crewmates Rose Kumagawa and
Andrei Novakovich, on the planet's surface at the time, are stranded
but later rescued. (sources: Date given in "One Small Step"
(VGR), text from Enterprise exploration timeline ) Although Mars was
certainly explored at this time, it seems that Mars was not colonized
until some years later, circa 2065.
2033 In the Delphic Expanse, the Xindi Homeworld is destroyed. Members
of five of the species of Xindi manage to escape and live on other
planets within the Expanse. A sixth species, the Avians, are completely
wiped out. The destruction of the planet was caused by the use of
a seismic weapon by the Reptilian and Insectoid Xindi species. (120
years before "The Xindi", "The Shipment")
July 4, 2033 The Virgin Islands are admitted as a state of the United
States of America, making a total of 52. ("The Royale")
Puerto Rico was admitted on July 4, 2023 (conjecture)
Also this year, Velar, the famed Vulcan ambassador, is born. (speculation
from "Fallen Hero" - assumes she was 25 when she started
her career as a diplomat. This would make her 119 in the episode)
This was also the last time that a Denoblian encountered an Antaran
prior to 2153. (6 generations before "The Breach" - assumes
Anataran generations are 20 years, although other dialogue suggests
no contact may have been made since 1853.)
2036 The New United Nations rules that Earth citizens may not be
held responsible for crimes committed by ancestors. ("Encounter
at Farpoint" (TNG)) The older version of the United Nations,
founded after World War Two, has presumably ceased to operate at this
point.
Hover cars come into popular use on Earth. ("The 37's"
(VGR)) They replace the combustion engine driven automobile.
July 23, 2037 NASA launches a deep-space exploration vessel, the Charybdis, with Colonel Steven Richey in command. This is the third
mission of its kind to depart Earth in an attempt to travel beyond
the orbit of Pluto. The first two were unsuccessful. ( Enterprise
exploration timeline, "Casino Royale" ). Note: According
to the Enterprise exploration timeline on startrek.com. this is the
last deep space exploration attempt until 2065.
2039 The Lunar Colonies are founded (Star Trek Star Charts, p. 32)
One of the first colonies established on the Moon is New Berlin.
(major city by 2140's "First Flight")
2040 Television has lost popularity and is no longer widely watched.
(Year indicated in "The Neutral Zone.") Movies, however,
endure. (Archer mentions science fiction movies in "Fight or
Flight," and movie night is a recurring activity of the crew
throughout the Enterprise series))
2042 The sport of baseball meets its demise as the last World Series
is held. ("If Wishes Were Horses" (DS9))
2043 The bloody Mind Control Revolts start on Earth. (Date is conjecture,
but based on fandom. The Mind Control Revolts are referred to in the
ST-TMP novel, widely viewed as canon.)
c. 2044 The S.S. "Charybdis" is contaminated by an alien
life form. Colonel Richey, the last survivor, finds himself on planet
Theta VIII within a holographic simulation created from the poorly
written novel 'Hotel Royale.' (date is speculation from "The
Royale")
2047 The Los Angeles area is submerged under 200 meters of water
following the Hermosa Quake. The region becomes the largest coral
reef on the planet. ("Future's End, Part 1" (VOY)) Mohave,
a desert community. survives, and becomes a large city. ("The
Cage")
2050 The Vulcan ship T'Plana encounters a Class 5 neutronic storm
and is lost with all hands. (Over a hundred years before "The
Catwalk")
2050 The Andorians discover a small Class-D planet in the space between
Andorian and Vulcan territory. (Roughly 100 years prior to "Cease
Fire") They name in Raytan (?) and proceed to terraform it.
c. 2050 Religious wars begin on the Triannon homeworld. (100 years
before "Chosen Realm")
early 2050's Relations break down between the two major alliances
of nations that compose mid 21st century Earth. Presumably, the United
States and her allies and the emergent European Union and her allies.
("Star Trek: First Contact")
2051 Hunting, having gone out of favor, is outlawed throughout most
of Earth. (100 years before "Rogue Planet")
2052 Terraforming having gone exceptionally well, the Andorians begin
to settle on Raytan. ("Cease Fire") The Vulcans become suspicious
of this rapid settlement so close to Vulcan space.
2053 World War III begins when Europe and the United States come
to blows over the resolution of the 6th Arab-Israeli war. The EU invades
the region to reverse the lopsided Israeli victory over the Arab League
(and just as importantly, to expel the Israelis from the Suez Canal
and the Saudi oil fields). The United States, unwilling to allow either
the canal or oil to fall into EU hands, backs the Israelis. The war
sees the first widescale deployment of artificially intelligent war
machines as well as the use of AI manufactories to sustain war production.
Colonel Green, a EuroCorps officer, becomes known
for his cruelty during the course of the conflict. (sources: Enterprise
exploration timeline, "The Savage Curtain" (TOS))
Six hundred million people died in the hostilities and most major
cities were destroyed. The previously flourishing technological societies
of Earth were thrown back to a barbaric state more like the Dark Ages
of over 1,000 years earlier. Advances in ABM technology prevented
large-scale nuclear exchanges (and probably spared mankind from extinction),
however, the social and economic dislocations were nearly as destructive
as any nuclear weapon.
Few governments survived, and recovery was hampered further by the
nuclear winter caused by dust and debris thrown into an atmosphere
already saturated with radioactive isotopes. Life for the survivors
was very hard. (Star Trek - The Magazine, Vol. 1 Issue 16)
Notably, however, some institutions and locations were spared. Large
scale destruction was limited to the war zones in Africa, the Arabian
Peninsula, the countryside of Europe and Asia. San Francisco and Paris
both seem to have survived, and some schools such as Cambridge and
Princeton were unharmed. Other institutions, such as West Point, also
remained. It also seems likely that the colonists on the Moon survived.
2054 The Vulcan High Command concludes that a military base is being
built on Raytan, and determines to put an end to it. A Vulcan occupation
force arrives on Raytan, complete with Vulcan intelligence officers.
A young intelligence officer named Suval, later to become Vulcan's
ambassador to Earth, is part of the occupation force. According to
Andorian accounts, the settlers on Raytan are forcibly moved into
refugee camps and moved off planet. These events apparently lead to
one of two wars that the Vulcans and Andorians fight over Raytan over
the next 100 years. ("Cease Fire")
The Arkonians develop the ability to travel faster than light with
the invention of the warp drive. (almost 100 years before "Dawn")
2055 Shortly after the Arkonians first develop warp drive, they are
contacted by the Vulcans, which is the Arkonians' first contact with
an alien race. (almost 100 years before "Dawn") The meeting
of the two cultures does not go well, the Arkonians do not accept
cultural exchanges and are suspicious of the Vulcans. Ultimately,
after some time (years?) and after discovering that the Arkonians
have been deceitful, the Vulcan High Command withdraws its contingent
from Arkonians. ("Dawn")
mid to late 2050's The world slowly recovers from the ravages of
World War III. A few nation states survive at least in part, and will
re-emerge in the years to follow. (Hoshi mentions the United States
is still considered a geopolitical entity in 2063 "Fallen Hero",
and we know that Australia survives as an independent nation until
the 22nd century)
In what became known as the post atomic horror, the legal system
is reduced to the principle of "guilty until proven innocent."
Amries during this period begin to control their soldiers through
the use of drugs. ("Encounter at Farpoint": (TNG) - date
given)
During this time, all the edicts of the New United Nations are rendered
null as all "United Earth nonsense is abolished." ("Encounter
at Farpoint")
2058 Velar begins her successful career as a diplomat for the planet
Vulcan. (94 years prior to "Fallen Hero")
2061 It is at this time, that some progress is made in moving the
Earth's economy away from the use of fossil fuels. (year given in
"Carpenter Street")
2062 Velar negotiates the first accords between the Andorians and
Vulcan (90 years prior to "Fallen Hero")
Also this is the rough time that Malcolm Reed's Grandfather was born
in the area known as England. It is unclear if England had survived
intact as a nation at this point, but it certainly re-emerged before
long. (speculation: assumes generations of 30 years in duration)
2063 In the post-war era, groups of humans struggle to rebuild their
society. Progress was made at different rates in different areas.
(Star Trek - The Magazine, Vol. 1, Issue 16)
In Montana, Zefram Cochrane works to convert an intercontinental
ballistic missile (ICBM) into the first faster-than-light, or warp,
spaceship the Phoenix. The Phoenix's test flight attracts the attention
of other space travelers and "first contact" is soon made
between humans and Vulcans.
These events are so critical to Earth history, that Borg from the
24th century come to this time to attempt to keep the launch of the
Phoenix from happening. The intervention of the crew of the Enterprise-E,
also from the 24th century, preserves the launch which facilitates
the historic first contact between Vulcans and the people of Earth.
Star Trek: First Contact; Enterprise exploration timeline , Phoenix
flight is shown in opening of Enterprise.)
A Borg sphere, shot down over the Earth in this exchange, crashes
in the Arctic Circle. These remains, inclusive of some inactive drones,
are discovered by researchers in February 2153. ("Regeneration")
April 5, 2063 FIRST CONTACT The contact with extraterrestrials marks
a key moment in human history.
Not long after first contact, Solkar, the first Vulcan Ambassador
to Earth, arrives. ("The Catwalk")
From this point on, Earth begins a rapid recovery from the ravages
of World War III. Assisted by the sometimes reluctant Vulcans, humanity
begins the long process of rebuilding society, unifying the Earth's
governments and reaching out into space. (First Contact, Carbon Creek)
When describing this period, which is considered by many to be the
turning point where humanity turned away from war and worked towards
unifying the world and solving problems in common, Archer indicates
that it began with "a few courageous people who realized they
could make a difference." ("Judgment")
Within a very short period of time, Earth begins sending vessels
out into space, exploring the unknown.
Velar, who will become a famous and successful Vulcan ambassador,
is troubled by this chain of events. She is concerned that the people
of Earth, so recently have come through a devastating war, can by
no means be ready for interstellar travel. ("Fallen Hero")
2064 A wholesale revolution in space exploration begins By the time
that Terra Nova is first discovered around 2066 there is a human colony
on the Moon at New Berlin and a colony at Utopia Planetia on Mars.
There are even a few colonies on asteroids within the solar system
by that point. ("Terra Nova.")
Early warp vessels make use of the design of the 1990's era space
vehicle, the DY-100. The new version of the ship are the DY-500 class.
Where the DY-100 had been sub warp "sleeper ships" the new
DY-500 class ships have warp drives installed and remain in use until
the 2120s. (speculation. sources: "Space Seed," "Strange
New World," "Up the Long Ladder," Star Trek Encyclopedia.)
During this year, Zephrem Cochrane is asked to speak at Princeton,
to give a commencement note address. In his remarks about First Contact
he mentions his encounter with "cybernetic creatures from the
future" and reveals that these creatures were defeated by a group
of humans from the future. These comments are widely disregarded and
Cochrane later distances himself from his remarks, disavowing them.
(89 years before "Regeneration")
Also in 2064, this is roughly the time when Malcolm Reed's Great
Uncle was born. (date is speculation based on "Minefield")
2065 The first deep-space exploration vessel since 2037, the S.S.
Valiant, departs Earth. Transmissions from the ship eventually die
out. ( Enterprise exploration timeline - including reference that
there had been no deep space exploration since 2037)
2066 The planet Terra Nova, only 20 light years away from Earth,
is discovered. (speculation - one year before the mission is launched.)
2067 The Conestoga, a ship commanded by Captain Mitchell, is sent
out by the Space Agency to colonize the new planet known as Terra
Nova. This was the first time the humans had tried to colonize deep
space. It would take nine years to complete the journey. ("Terra
Nova" - 9 years before the colony established.)
John Burke of the Royal Academy is the first to map an area of space
that contains Sherman's Planet. That such important research was being
done by the Royal Academy at this time suggests that at least some
areas of the United Kingdom had made a reasonable recovery from the
devastation of the war. Other distinguished institutions and structures
also survived, such as Cambridge University and the Eiffel Tower in
Paris. (sources: "The Trouble with Tribbles" (TOS), Enterprise
exploration timeline, Star Trek - The Magazine, Vol. 1, Issue 16.
)
Because previous deep-space exploration attempts ultimately failed,
a new approach, an unmanned probe named Friendship 1, leaves Earth
with a message of peace, warp technology instructions, and an invitation
to visit Earth. ( "Friendship One" (VGR), Enterprise exploration
timeline )
T'Pau is born. (speculation. assumes T'Pau was 200 in "Amok
Time.")
The civilization on Levinius V is destroyed by the "flying parasites."
("Operation—Annihilate!")
The Great Awakening on Argelius II. The Awakening marked their cultures
entrance into a hedonistic society. ("Wolf in the Fold")
A radiation-laden freighter from an unidentified race discovered
in the Gamelan system in 2367 was determined to have been at least
300 years old. (TNG "Final Mission")
2069 The last Klingon Emperor, Keth the Centerian, dies. No successor
ascends the throne. ("Rightful Heir" (TNG)) Note: The end
of this office does not signal any sort of decline - Kolos describes
Klingon society as "great" and in the period prior to the
2120s, which was an time when Klingons were not predominantly warlike.
("Judgment")
The Skorr, a race of avian beings, long existed as a warrior race
with advanced technology and the ability to breed vast armies very
quickly. Around 2069, a great Skorr philosopher, Alar, lead the Skorr
into a new era of peace. After Alar's death, his thought patterns
were preserved in an indurite sculpture referred to as the "Soul
of Skorr." ("The Jihad" - TAS)
According to the animated episodes, the series of four wars between
Earth and the Kzinti, a race of felinoid warriors, finally ends around
this time with the Kzinti being ultimately defeated. It doesn't really
fit here, however, so I have moved it out 100 years. Please see 2169.
2070 More colonization efforts are launched, even though the Conestoga
is still in transit to Terra Nova.
The first of the ten space arks is launched at this time. (Terratin
Incident).
As well, it seems likely that this was the time that Harry Kim's
ancestor Jack piloted a deep space mission to Beta Capricus, while
the rest of his crew is in stasis. When he finds no sign of life he
turns around without waking up the crew. The ship didn't yet have
a subspace transmitter ("11:59," Voyager). Note: the mission
was said to have been begun in 2210, but this entry assumes Harry
had his dates incorrect. See also another entry at 2070.)
This is the era represented by the unknown warp vessel in the opening
sequence of Enterprise. (see left) The ship is shown flying over an
Earth colony - perhaps Luna?
Suspiria, one of the Nacene taking care of the Ocampa, decides to
leave the region and explore the galaxy. She creates a small array
similar to her companion's array and departs with a large number of
Ocampa, the first Ocampa to leave their homeworld. No historical records
on the Ocampa homeworld exist of this small exodus. ("Cold Fire"
(VOY))
2072 Quinn is imprisoned by the Q Continuum in a comet in the Delta
Quadrant. ("Death Wish" (VGR))
2073 The tenth and last Space Ark, Terra 10, is launched complete
with early transporter technology. Of all ten generation ships, only
the passengers of this last ship will survive. Shortly after this,
the Interstat code that they made use of becomes outdated. ( "The
Terratin Incident." (TAS) approximately 200 years before the
episode (2269). The remaining space arks, to be consistent with the
established date of the Conestoga's voyage as the first colony ship,
must have been launched within the previous two years.) Date that
Molly O'Brien was sent back to after accidentally falling into an
abandoned time portal on the planet Golona in 2373. At this time Golona
was an uninhabited world, the race that had constructed the time portal
having disappeared circa 375. "Time's Orphan" (DS9)
Around 2073, give or take a year, Zephrem Cochrane offered one of
his more famous quotes: "Don't try to be a great man ... just
be a man. Let history make its own judgments." (First Contact,
Star Trek.com bio)
2075 Captain Vannick first signs up with the Vulcan Space Fleet.
76 years before " Breaking the Ice" (ENT)
Also in 2075, Slug-O-Cola, a Ferengi beverage business, creates an
advertising slogan that it keeps for the next 300 years. "Profit
and Lace" (DS9)
2076 The Terra Nova colony, the first human colony outside of the
solar system, is established. Trip's grandfather saw the first transmissions
from "Terra Nova" when he was a child. (5 years prior to
the breakdown in relations and the asteroidal impact, 80 years prior
to "Terra Nova.") That same year, Bernadette Fuller is born
to a colonist family. It is unclear whether she was born on the planet
or onboard the colony ship Conestoga en route to Terra Nova. (75 years
prior to "Terra Nova." (ENT))
2079 At least in some regions, the military courts of the Post Atomic
Horror continue. (date given in Encounter at Farpoint)
July 4, 2079 Guam becomes the 53rd State of the United
States (conjecture based on Riker's reference to the historical span
of the 52 star flag in "The Royale": 2033-2079 and the existence of
the USA after this point based on flashback sequences to Henry Archer
in "Broken Bow")
Early 2081 Having proved interplanetary colonization is viable, the
Earth government decides "nothing succeeds like success"
and plans to send another expedition to Terra Nova. The existing colonists
on Terra Nova do not wish additional inhabitants, and so a dispute
breaks out between the Earth and the colony. (speculation, a few months
before the asteroidal impact, "Terra Nova" (ENT))
Later in 2081 A rouge asteroid strikes Terra Nova. Captain Mitchell,
the leader of the colony, attempts to send one last communication
to Earth, accusing the Earth government of having attacked the Novans.
The radioactive fallout resulting from the asteroidal impact eventually
kills off all of the adult colonists, and the children are forced
to fend for themselves, seeking refuge in underground caves. Only
the ones five years old and younger develop an immunity to the radiation.
(70 years before "Terra Nova", (ENT))
2082 Recovering from the loss of the Terra Nova colony, new expeditions
are put together to establish Earth colonies on other planets. (speculation)
Colonel Steven Richey, commander of the Earth space vehicle Charybdis,
dies in captivity on the eighth planet of the Theta 116 system. ("The
Royale", (TNG))
Also in 2082, at age 18, Malcolm Reed's Great Uncle signs up for
the Royal Navy. He would join the submarine service. (Speculation
based on "Minefield")
The Lornack Clan on Acamar II begins a bitter feud with the Tralestas.
(280 years before "The Vengeance Factor")
2083 Roughly the time period when the pod was ejected from the Y-500
class vessel in Travis Mayweather's Boomer ghost story in "Strange
New World." (speculation - 63 years before 2146)
Kolos, the Klingon advocate, is born. He is not born into the warrior
class - his Father is a teacher and his Mother is a biologist. (speculation
- 75 years before "Judgment")
During this year, a great Xindi poet declares that a race without
a planet is lost, which is presumably the beginning of the effort
for the Xindi to begin to work towards rebuilding their society on
new worlds. (50 years after the Diaspora according to Degra in Azati
Prime)
2085 An Earth colony is established on Alpha Centauri. (speculation)
2086 T'Pol is born on Vulcan. She is an only child.
Speculation. She is noted as being the oldest member of the Enterprise
crew in "Fallen Hero." This date assumes T'Pol is 65 in
"Broken Bow." Note: she has been described in press releases
as both "late 20's, early 30's" and as "the oldest
one on board." In at least one interview, Jolene Blacock described
T'Pol as being 65 years of age. We know T'Pol has no siblings from
"The Xindi."
It was also during 2086 that Henry Archer, famous warp engineer,
was born in the United States on Earth. (speculation. Assumes Henry
was 35 in the flashback sequences of "Broken Bow.")
2087 Vega Colony is established. (speculation) Vega was still a colony
as of 2254. Some sources list Vega as an early Federation member planet.
(eg. The Worlds of the Federation)
2089 The Andorians and Vulcans begin negotiations about the status
of Raytan. The negotiations take eight years and an accord is finally
reached in 2097. ("Cease Fire") It is logical to assume
that this process began at the end of a conflict - perhaps the second
war that was fought over Raytan between the Andorians and Vulcans.
2090 Malcolm Reed's Great Uncle dies when the HMS Clement, a nuclear
submarine, is sunk after striking an undersea mine. It had been traveling
on a patrol beneath the ice cap when this event occurred. To save
the crew, he had locked himself in the engine room and kept the reactor
from melting down, while the rest escaped. This story had a great
affect on Malcolm, even though it seems unlikely he was alive when
the events took place. (date is speculation based on "Minefield")
2090 Zephrem Cochrane perfects the warp 2 engine, and construction
begins on the first of the warp 2 freighters that will usher in a
new era of interstellar travel and commerce. (speculation, based on
"Fortunate Son" and "Horizon")
An engine capable of propelling vessels faster than warp 2 would
prove somewhat elusive, and it would not be until the mid 2140's that
a successful testing of a ship capable of Warp 3 would succeed. ("First
Flight")
2091 Warp 2 capable freighters first begin to be used to ship cargo
on long runs from planet to planet. Their crews, the "boomers"
develop an unique culture with strong bonds of loyalty to their families
and their ships. Three generations (which I took to be 60 years) prior
to "Fortunate Son" (ENT)
2092 Dr. Phlox is born on Denoblia, a crowded planet with a billion
people on a single continent.
Date is speculation. Press releases state that Dr. Phlox's age is
unknown. The actor, John Billingsley, who plays Dr. Phlox, was 51
at the time that "Broken Bow" was filmed. However, the mention
in "A Night in Sickbay" that all of his children have grown
up and left home and have chosen careers suggests he may be older,
perhaps 60 in 2152. Crowded planet info from "The Catwalk"
Also around about 2092, Malcolm Reed's parents are born in England.
Malcolm's father is in the Royal Navy, as was Malcolm's Grandfather
and Great Uncle. (speculation: assumes they were 30 when Malcolm was
born)
2093 At age seven, T'Pol undergoes a ceremony that arranges her marriage.
(Speculation, based on "Amok Time" and "Breaking the
Ice.") Also while 7 years of age, T'Pol undergoes the kahs-wan
