Sailormoon is a Japanese anime (Japanese for animation), that originated in Japan in 1992. It was created by Naoko Takeuchi, Kodansha, Toei, Animation Co., Ltd.

Manga, a Japanese comic, was also published in 1992, about a 14-year-old girl by the name "Usagi Tsukino" ("Serena," later in the North American version). She is viewed as one of the "typical" blondes... clumsy, empty-headed, and a little bit "stupid," and, of course, easy prey to handsome men. However, it is later discovered that she is not just another dumb blonde, rather she happens to turn into a super hero overnight! She makes friends with ease, and consequently she is able to form deep, meaningful and lasting friendships. She becomes friends with the school nerd, a hot tempered girl, a strong and intimidating girl, and a girl that no one else wants any connection with (an outcast, so to speak). These friends eventually become the Sailor Scouts!

The story behind Sailormoon is basically that Sailormoon is the daughter of Queen Serenity from the Era of the Moon Kingdom.
A dark force was spreading over the earth bringing evil, and when Queen Serenity realized that her Kingdom was doomed to perish, in order to preserve her Kingdom from this evil, she used a silver imperium crystal and captured the Dark Kingdom in the crystal. By the same means, she preserved everyone from the Moon Kingdom, which included her daughter; Sailormoon, Prince Endymion, the cats; Artemis and Luna (who were to be Sailor's protectors and advisers), and sent them into the future to earth to live peacefully.

However, not all things always go as planned. The Dark Kingdom broke free from the crystal and Sailormoon and the Scouts had to be revived. They fight for good on earth, so that in the future, Sailormoon's world is not altered or destroyed.

Sailormoon inspires me because she, for one thing, is kind of like me. I am blonde and everyone thinks blondes are supposed to be stupid. No! That is NOT true! I think of myself as intelligent, and I am my "own person." When I first started believing in Sailormoon, watching her shows and collecting her comics, I knew she was going to be my hero. Maybe not so much now, but when I was 9 or 10 she showed me that I could be anything I wanted to be. I learned from Sailormoon that I just have to set my mind to it and not let anyone else get in my way.

I identified so easily with Sailormoon, because she and I share some of the same physical attributes, like the blonde hair and blue eyes, and we both like to SLEEP, EAT (not be a pig), and relax. Although she doesn't get very good grades (just average), and I do get good grades, that difference between us doesn't matter, because she portrays someone who strives to do her best. Oh, and we both have boyfriends!!!! LOL!

Right now, Sailormoon may not be my hero (she was when I was younger), but now to me she is someone that is here within me. You can't see her, but because you can't see something doesn't mean it is not THERE. I saw her when I was 9, or maybe 10, and she was REAL--like a guardian angel, talking to me, there with me as a friend. Sailormoon lives in my soul and she always will!!!
