Louisa May Alcott

Louisa May Alcott was born in 1832 and began writing at a very early age. She kept a diary with the encouragement of her parents and wrote many thrilling plays and stories as a child. She had her first poem published at the age of nineteen and her first book, "Flower Fables", was published a year later. The book was a compilation of several fairy stories and poems that she had written for children.

Louisa is probably best known for her book "Little Women", published in 1868 - several years after her first book. She went on to write several other books, short stories, and poems in her lifetime. She never married, but she took care of both of her parents and served as a nurse during the civil war. Aside from writing, she was also a teacher and she worked occasionally as a seamstress.
