Olly's Story

In 1972, the ban on keeping or owning a German Shepherd Dog (or Alsatian) in Australia was lifted, and to fill the empty void, a lot of dogs were imported into Australia, some of dubious merit, but also some of the best. Eveley Kennels were the top GSD Kennel in UK at the time, and several good dogs were imported from them.

\John - my new Dad to be had two pet dogs both owned by Eveley Kennels in Partnership - Grief vom Gudahof - a superb dog, and one of the first dogs imported into UK following WW II, from Germany. and Champion Olivia of Eveley, who he also handled in the Show ring. A result of an 'accidental' mating between these two produced a litter of nine, of which three were to become future Champions. The Pick of the Litter was sold to Malcolm Griffeths - a young man, who was about to make his name in UK, later to become a top Show Judge and Breeder, and even later - in recent times be prosecuted for 'fixing' shows, and altering pedigrees. Grief was eventually exported to Malaya where he was made a Champion, and Olivia stayed with John until she was given sleep at 11 years of age with Hip Dysplasia. To honour the memory of Champion Olivia, who is my G/G/G Grandmother, I am called Olly, and I am soon (in April 2004) to return to my roots, and go to live in England with John and Sunny, and my new Cousin Sara, whose web site this really is!!

This particular dog - Champion Bedwins Pirol of Eveley - was exported to Australia, and formed the foundation of many Australian Kennels with his progeny, and he is one of my ancestors, together with a few other Eveley dogs farther back in my pedigree.

Before I can leave my Brother and Sister here in Australia, I have to have a Rabies injection, and then, six weeks later on October 15th, I have to have a blood test. Then after that I have to remain in Australia for a further 6 months to do my 'Quarantine' before I can fly to my new home in England in April 2004.

Here is a picture of me at 12 weeks taken at my first attendance at a Dog Show - I wasn't entered this time, but just went along for the first long ride in the float for 3 hours each way, and to socialise a bit. Of course I wouldn't leave out my Sister and Brother, Ana and Samm, who came along too, so here they are, below :-

Champion Bedwins Pirol of Eveley (1976))

Funny thing is, I am probably the most 'International' Dog in the World!!!! - I am an Australian by Birth, Tony, My Breeder is Italian. I am a German Shepherd Dog I am going to Live in the United Kingdom. Sunny my new Mum is American, and my new Dad is English .

Temora Championship Show

My Dad and Mum took us for a long drive to Temora Championship Show today, and I thought how well I would try for them, for looking after me so well....Ana and Samm came along too, and here are the results :-
