PageBuilder Transloader and much more!
This tutorial deals strickly with transloading graphics to your webshell for uploading to your webpage. Before we get into the actual transloading itself, I will try to explain what transloading is and why you need to do it.
Transloading is bascially taking a graphic or midi file and renaming it to a file name that you have selected for yourself, then moving or uploading that file to your webshell where you can use it on your webpage.
There are two main reasons why we transload.
(1) If you do not transload it is considered stealing bandwidth.
(2) If you do not transload, but simply link a graphic to your webpage, the following could happen. If the person who has the original graphic decides to remove that graphic from their webpage, it will also remove it from your webpage.
By renaming the graphic or midi, you have in essence changed the file name, so if they remove the original from their webpage, you will still have it on your webpage under the new file name.
Something important to remember is this. If you find a graphic or midi that is copywrited, you must get permission from the person to use that graphic; you must give credit to that person for the graphic; and you usually have to provide a link to that person's webpage. There are a lot of free graphics and midis that you can use, some will ask you to link to their sites if you use them and others will not. The main thing to remember is NETIQUETTE. If you are asked to provide a link back to their site or give credit, please do so as a courtesy for all the hard work they have done.
We hope to provide you with as much information on different transloaders and how to use them with your different sites and will update this section as more information becomes available.
PLEASE NOTE: Starblvd will transload files that are 30kb or less for free. There is a fee for files larger than 30kb.
Update December,1999-Please read for update in procedure!
Basically now at Target account name you can no longer use anonymous but you must use your log in name at Angelfire.
Target password you now have to use the actual password you have at Angelfire.
Upload Directory used to be /incoming, it is now /images
Follow the same transloader instructions, then go to Angelfire and log in. Your images will now be in the image directory. Click on the image directory and click on open and locate your image in the directory there.
Will keep you posted if more changes occur.
Thank You for this update,Stormspirit
The form at Starblvd is set up as follows:
Below that you will see bars, one is Transload, Save Cookies, Discard Cookies.
The first thing you want to do is access Starblvd at:
http://transload.starblvd.net/
Go to Line (4) Target FTP Server and type ftp.angelfire.com
Go to Line (5) Target Account Name and type anonymous
Go to Line (6) Target Account Password and type john@dow.com
Go to Line (7) Upload Directory and type /incoming
Arrow key down and click on Save Cookies. You only have to click on it once, you will not hear anything, but what you have done is saved the information that you just typed in so that everytime you go to Starblvd you won't have to retype it.
Now, You can either go to the save button at the top of your keyboard or at the bottom of your keyboard is a bar that says "options", click on that and arrow key to the "save" button. Click on the save button. This will bring up the menu of your file folders. Arrow key to the folder you want to save Starblvd in, click on that folder, and save it. Now you have placed Starblvd in your favorite folder. I would suggest that you go to your favorite folders, go to the folder that has Starblvd in it, click on organize, and assign Starblvd and Fkey. This will save you time in the future when you start building your website.
Now we are ready to begin the transload process.
First you must find a graphic that you would like. When you access the graphic, simply hit the Fkey you have assigned to Starblvd and it will take you there automatically.
Line (1) will show the URL of the last visted site which should be the graphic you had accessed. Right below that is a blue teardrop, click on that teardrop and it will put the URL of the graphic in Line (2).
You will need to rename the graphic in Line (3). For example, say you are transloading an angel, you could rename it angelone.gif or if you or transloading a jpg you could call it angelone.jpg - you can name it anything you want but it has to end in .gif or .jpg or if it is a midi .mid - all the other lines should be filled in for you because you saved the information in cookies.
Now arrow key below to the "transload" bar and click on it. This will take you to another page that says "status log file", click on that. This will take you to another page where you will see a "reload" button, click on that. Now scroll down to where you see a "Zap" button and click on it. If you do not see a "Zap" button then you must scroll up and hit the reload button again and then find "Zap". I have had to do this several times if the system is very busy. Zap ends your transloading session on the transloader end and clears the information from the cache.
Now go to Angelfire at:
http://www.angelfire.com and login.
When you have logged in you should be at your editing page. Arrow key down below your file menu and you will see a blank space. In that space type the rename file name, example angelone.gif - then arrow down to the ftp upload bar and click on that. You should get a message at the top of the page that says angelone.gif has been successfully uploaded. It should now appear in your file menu box to use whenever you need it.
Remember the system is case sensitive so everything must be typed in just right.
One more thing I would like to share with you is, if for some reason you can't access a graphic but you have the URL for it, then when you go to the Transloader, instead of clicking on the teardrop you would type the URL in Line (2) and follow the same procedure from there on. Sometimes you may find a graphic on a page that has a lot of graphics on it, there is a way to find the URL of any of the graphics shown, but that should be covered in another tutorial section.
