Christchurch. A delightful, clean student city. Filled with
flower gardens, and just a short drive from the beautiful ski fields and
mountains of southern New Zealand. Many international students study here.
Christchurch
is a small, conservative city with a population of 300,000 people. It is
the main center of the rich farming province of Canterbury, with two universities,
several polytechnics, more than a dozen fine high schools, a quality public
library, a deep-water port, a busy industrial area and an expanding international
airport.
Long rows of mature trees line the major avenues, a large green park fills
the central area, the charming Avon River winds through the quiet business
district, and almost every home has displays of private garden flowers.
Christchurch is a beautiful city.
It is also an historic city, built by English immigrants in the 1850s, and
for more than 100 years it has been a centre for arts, education and culture.
Many fine old stone buildings built in those early days still stand within
easy walking distance of the city square. Christchurch is a delightful tourist
destination. |
