BIOGRAPHY

SUGARPOP, a classic pop quartet with the force of 90's alternative music, has produced their first album, "Give Up Your Sister" ( J-Bird Records-www.Jbirdrecords.com). "Give Up Your Sister", a 10-song collection, is a refreshing reminder that musicians can produce an entire album filled with quality songs. Reminiscent of The Lemonheads, the album is making a huge impact at College Radio stations across the country. Several stations have added 3 or more songs from the album and feature the band on multiple programs. They are quickly gaining popularity as their album's rotations increase week after week.

Three years ago, Jason Taylor and his band, 8-Bus, were sending their demo to record labels with the hopes of breaking out from the Atlanta scene. Most labels did not respond to their music until the CD fell into the hands of Mark Pipes, who was working in radio promotion at Guardian Records. Mark Pipes listened to their demo and instantly recognized the talent and the promise of a new young band. However, the demo really wasn't the folk rock that Guardian was looking for at the time. One week later, Taylor submitted to Pipes a new four-song acoustic tape, which blew him away.

Although Pipes still could not find anybody to take interest in the low quality 4-track recordings, he would not let go of this unique talent. Therefore, he offered his services as a studio bass player. In the following months, Pipes and Taylor eagerly put together what was originally intended to be a three song demo. But it was obvious that there was much more to prove than what could be recorded in just a few songs. Jason Taylor had the talent to become a superstar.

The chemistry between Mark and Taylor was so apparent that Taylor left 8-Bus and set a goal to record an album for an independent label where he and Pipes would finance all of the recordings themselves. It was then that SUGARPOP was born.

Following the completion of "Give Up Your Sister", Mark Pipes left his job in New York and moved to Atlanta to play in the band he originally intended to manage. Taylor also recruited guitarist Darron Derdall and drummer Dirk Lebsack from 8-Bus. SUGARPOP continues to write and develop songs as they begin to leave their mark on the Atlanta live music scene.
