About Me

Here's more than you probably want to know about me...

My Hobbies

My favourite pastime is watching TV. Those countdowns which show bits and pieces of recent Hindi movie songs are more than enough for me. But I am really thrilled to see the Antaksharis and movie song quizzes.

Some years back, I used to relish reading..hmmm..not any of those Classic novels in English. My favourites were novels in Tamil so much so that I wish the characters in them were real life ones. Just like how one may be delighted to meet Sherlock Holmes, I would love to meet Ganesh/Vasanth of Sujatha stories or Appusamy of Backiam's creations.

I caught the habit of making lists from my father. List of all books I read, list of movies I watched, list of songs I like (with full lyrics) etc etc.

My School Life - Part I

I should say this was the Golden Era of my life. I feel so because I was most successful, most happy and most admired by others during my school days.I don't remember much about my kinter garten days which I spent in Bangalore. My father shifted his job to Keltron, Trivandrum and I was admitted into Standard II in Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Trivandrum.I studied in Chinmaya Vidyalaya till Class VII.

This school was established by Swami Chinamayananda - a journalist turned spiritual and is now being maintained by his disciples. The life style in this school is very much different from any other school.Apart from dance, music, crafts and sports classes, we had a separate class for Bhajan. The Meditation Hall is the venue and the whole class would sing Bhajans and chant Bhagavad Gita. I remember how we used to sing with full josh for hours together and how tired we used to be at the end of it.

'Nothing succeeds like success' -- I got to know the truth of the saying in my school days.I was always the topper in my classand occasionally at school level too. I remember once when I got cent per cent in all the subjects, I was the talk of the town (or at least the class!!).For the first time in my life, I participated in a district level competition. That was a group song event held with real competition. Since that was a prestige issue for our school and our new music teacher, we had to do lot of rehearsals. In the Child Welfare Board competitions, when the results were announced, our group was almost in heaven -- we won the first prize. The feeling then was nothing less than how Aamir Khan would have felt after winning the cycle race in the climax of Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander.

While leaving Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vazhuthacaud, Trivandrum as the best outgoing student ,my mind was full of questions -- how the next school is going to be?

My School Life - Part II

The first day at Cotton Hill Girls High School was wierd and odd. In my old school, I had not seen so many children. This school was full of girls in white and green everywhere. The class strength was around 40 or 50..and they always have divisions starting from A to even Z. Mine was O division. Cotton Hill was told to be the school with the largest number of students in Asia. I felt so sad thinking I will be lost in this large crowd.

But this was the school that brought out the best in me. It turned out that I could prove myself to everyone there. I continued to get a class first rank there too. I enjoyed all the importance of being the centre of attraction as a nice studious girl. Even now, my friend Sunitha says how jealous she was when all my answers to the teachers' class session questions were so welcome and appreciated. Ha Ha Ha..those were the days..!

Coming to Extra curricular activities, I used to take part in Elocution ,Essay Writing, Versification (poetry writing)- all in Hindi, Malayalam and English.  On the school Anniversary day, I used to go on to the stage so many times to collect prizes. I took part in district and state level competitions and won some prize every time I took part.

To top it all, I contested in the school elections. There was no party involved in our school elections. It was a wonderful experience. You need to go to all classes and speak and ask for vote. There will be banners and posters all over the school mathil (wall) and u also need to distribute small badges with "Vote for Sujatha" written on them to the students of upper primary. I was in IX standard then ..so I was called Sujatha Chechi by those kids of lower class. During lunch time, was procession time..u will laugh if u hear this. I followed by my followers(!) will have to walk around the school ,shouting out slogans and when the upper primary building comes , hundreds of students stand out from the balconies and wave at you. I almost felt like Rajiv Gandhi waving at the junta.

I was the Deputy Speaker in IX and became the school leader in X Std elections. Overall, I enjoyed the best of my school life thoroughly in Cotton Hill G.H.S. and managed to get good marks in my SSLC.I was around 10 or 11 marks short of the last rank in state..now does that make it great! Here comes college life beckoning me with all its thrill, excitement and charm.

My College Life - Part I

Two years of Pre Degree at College For Women, Vazhuthacaud , Trivandrum was full of exploitaion of the sudden freedom. The studious girl in Cotton Hill began to cut classes, go for movies in KalaBhavan (I dont know who decided to construct this theatre right opposite to the college..that was good idea, anyway!) and hang out with my gang which consisted of Suhana , Lavanya and Kripa. I bought a cycle and Simi taught me cycling. We used to go for Maths, Physics and Chemistry tuition together.  We enjoyed the Gana Mela at college and the Film Festivals which was loads of fun and excitement..booing the stupid scenes in the movies. Thanks to the tuitions and also the classes at college which were not bad actually , I managed to get good marks in PDC and also managed to get admission into College Of Engineering, Trivandum.

My College Life - Part II

College of Engineering , Trivandrum is  a prestigious institution in South India. Visit http://cet-india.org.The first Year was great in I Batch. We had a wonderful gang of friends. Read a poem I wrote about that life in College Ki  Yaaden in My Poetry page.

From second year, we were grouped according to branch of study. Comp-Sci class was real fun. See my  Friendship Page to read more.

My HISO life

HISO stands for Honeywell India Software Operation. I worked here for 3 wonderful years. The working atmosphere here was so comfortable. People around were very nice and jolly. I was very happy there as far as the work  and compensation goes. I made lot of good friends here. We all used to chat a lot during coffee breaks and we used to go out for lunches forcing somebody to give a treat. It was a wonderful experience working in HISO.
