Mahaadukkhakkhanda | Majjhima | Muulapa.n.naasa, Siihanaada Vagga | MN.013 | M.i.083ff. | 18/113 | sensual restraint | Monks once visit wanderers at Paribbajakarama near Savatthi and hear their claim that they, like the Buddha have managed to subdue the senses. When the monks repeated their conversation to the Buddha, He stated that none but himself knew the satisfaction, the perils and the deliverance which attend the pleasures of the senses. He then proceeded to explain the pleasures of the senses, the perils that attend them and the deliverance therefrom, which is to shed all desire and appetite therefore. It is the same with feelings. |
