Caatuma | Majjhima | Majjhimapa.n.naasa, Bhikkhu Vagga | MN.067 | M.i.456ff. | 20/376 | temper, gluttony, sense-pleasure, women | When some new members to the order were expelled for making too much noise, the Sakyas of Catuma and the Brahma Sahampati interceded on their behalf and they were allowed to return. The Buddha then preached to them that just as four terrors await the man who enters the water: 1. waves ; 2. crocodiles; 3. whirlpools , and; 4. sharks so there are four terrors awaiting the newly ordained monk: 1. wrath and resentment caused by the ability to accept teaching and advice; 2. gluttony; 3. desire for sense-pleasure, and; 4. love for women. |
