The story of Ghatikara, a potter in the time of Kassapa Buddha who looked after his blind parents and served the Buddha piously. Eventually the Buddha accepted Ghatikara’s invitation in preference to the invitation of the king of Benares. So great was the trust of the Buddha in Ghatikara’s faith that he would take things from the home of Ghatikara even when he was not there. Once the Buddha took the thatch from the house of Ghatikara to thatch his own, and the house stood open to the sky for three months. However, so great was the faith of Ghatikara, that no rain fell on the house during this time. At that time the bodhisatva was Jotipala who was taken by Ghatikara to hear the Buddha’s teaching by force.
