Indriyabhaavanaa Majjhima Uparipa.n.naasa, Sa.laayatana Vagga MN.152 M.ii.298-302 23/522 mastery of the senses The Buddha asks Uttara about his master Parasariya's teaching on the development of the faculties. It is that a man should neither see forms with his eyes, nor hear words with his ears, says Uttara. Whereupon the Buddha retorts that the deaf and the blind must therefore have mastered the senses according to Parasariya’s teaching? When Uttara sits silent and discomfited, Ananda intervenes and invites the Buddha to expound a teaching on the subject. The Buddha agrees and preaches the sutta with a variety of similes.
