The
Great UFO Wave of 1973:
Witness interview
Interview
with '73 Witness to
UFO incident near Wooster, Ohio
On Monday, October 12, 1998, I conducted a telephone interview with a gentleman who reported a UFO sighting in the fall of 1973. He presently resides in Oregon, and reported the sighting on the electronic report submissions form of The National UFO Reporting Center. He released his name and telephone number to NUFORC director Peter Davenport and approved a follow-up interview from a researcher. Enclosed below is the initial report with his name, address and telephone number deleted.
The location of his sighting was near Wooster, Ohio.
During my conversation with the reportee, I noted that he sounded sober and coherent. He recounted the incident clearly, although he was not certain that the date of the incident was in September. He said it to be 'in the fall sometime.' He recalled of entering a clearing along a roadway while driving a car on a county road and the mystery which followed.
He had been heading south from Canaan into Wooster on a backroad. The small backroad was parallel to Route 3 and runs north to south. The location was adjacent to Homerville, 5 or 6 miles north of Wooster. He suddenly saw 5 or 6 objects when driving into a clearing. At first, he thought the objects he sighted were 'little helicopters.' They rose up into the air as he -along with his friend- fled from the area. He hasn't been in touch with this friend for a number of years.
He did not report the incident at the time.
During this time-period, he recalled a number of newspaper articles about local sightings that were listed in The Wooster Daily Record. He was asked if he had any knowledge of other sightings in the area, and said that he could 'vaguely remember' that there were other sightings in the area, and mentioned that the newspaper would be a good source for information.
He recalled another event which he witnessed in 1975 where a triangular shaped object was sited, and a humming sound was heard.
This is the second recent report of a UFO sighting in or near the Wooster area from the fall of 1973. This is the same locality as the famous Mansfield/Coyne helicopter case (that was further supported by ground witnesses). A previous report, received in August of 1998, recounted an alleged 'missing time' experience by a retired police captain. The experience was in conjunction with the observation of a low-level object.

180 Summary: Driving on a back road in rural Wayne county, we had been driving along a stretch of woodland when we entered some cleared farmland. As we passed this area, a harvested hay field; we saw 5 or 6 small craft sitting in the field at the back of the clearing near the woods. They were approximatly 500 or 600 feet from the road. About the size of a volkswagon bug with a red light at each corner of a triangle. As we passed thru the area they each rose from the field and flew over the field and the road behind us. I saw nothing else as I was busy getting the hell out of there. My friend and I told no-one at the time even though there had been articles in "The Daily Record", the local paper; discribing a much larger triagular craft being seen around the county. I've always wondered if the several smaller craft assembled into the larger one. Wayne county had several sightings of a large trianglar craft again in 1975. Many saw it, myself included. Many years later I read the book about the Hudson Valley sightings and it was identical to the craft I and another friend saw in 1975. The local paper covered both sightings very well, giving them front page exposure. I've heard you on Coast to Coast and Sightings, keep up the good work.
