Useful Links There are a lot of places out there on the Web offering free resources such as icons, animated GIFs, backgrounds, sounds, scripts, etc. I've listed just a few here that I've seen myself. If you come across any others that you think should be included, please let me know. Please bear in mind that while the owners of these resources are happy for you to use them, most of them prohibit commercial use.
This is principally a web design company, but they have a good selection of very attractive graphics for free use. The "matched sets" are well worth a look.
![]() BigNoseBird http://www.bignosebird.com/ Many free resources here, including a lot of icons, backgrounds, buttons, midi files and CGI scripts.
![]() Cut & Paste JavaScript http://www.infohiway.com/javascript/indexf.htm Featuring more than 200 FREE JavaScripts you can simply paste into your HTML! Plus they have some Cut-N-Paste Perl and CSS scattered around the site, too!
![]() WebGFX http://www.webgfx.ch/ Another winner of a TaFWeb Gold Award, WebGFX offers free (and almost instantaneous) logos for your web site. Many text styles and variations to choose from, and text can be up to 15 characters.
![]() 1001 Resources for Webmasters http://come.to/resources/ A very good selection of links won this site our TaFWeb Gold Award. Categories include the usual Web Page Hosts, E-Mail and URL Redirection services, but also has extremely useful sections for CGI, Java/JavaScript, Site Promotion and Banner Exchanges amongst others.
![]() Hey You! http://www.hey-you.com/ Masses of free graphics for your pages - over 100 full sets (matching buttons, bars and borders), 50 borders in a choice of colours, 40 bars and 50 buttons in every shape and style. Add to that an attractive selection of "Trinkets" and "Bits & Pieces" and an offer to design a free logo just for you, and you can see why "Hey You!" has won our TaFWeb Gold Award for helping you to create your web pages.
![]() Response-O-Matic http://www.response-o-matic.com/ If you want to use forms on your pages and don't have access to a CGI script to process them, the next best way is to have someone deal with them for you and then email the response to you. The only problem remaining then is creating the initial form. Response-O-Matic not only handle the form output for you but they also provide a Form Wizard to help you create the form.
![]() FormMailer http://www.formmailer.net/ Another form redirection service which we used until they unfortunately had to close down due to misuse by a few of their clients. FormMailer is now back in operation, but users of their previous service will need to re-register.
![]() SiteOwner.com http://www.siteowner.com/ From this one site you can submit your website to search engines, check your pages for HTML design, browser compatibility, dead links and loading time, create meta tags for your web page, find how many people are linked to your site, analyse the efficiency of your graphics... and so on.
Note: Link failed when last tested ![]() Dodgy Dave's Webpage Resource Thingy http://members.xoom.com/muddog/ A resource page with a sense of humour! Covers most of the usual types of resources (e-mail, graphics, HTML, etc.) but also includes a number of useful tips - there's even advice on how to get free (legal) software. ![]() ReallyBig.com http://reallybig.com/default.shtml The name of this site says it all - it really is BIG. I haven't counted them, but I can believe the webmaster's claim that there are over 1,000 links for web builders. The links cover nearly all areas of interest to anyone building a web site including free clipart, counters, html, java, animation, backgrounds, icons, wysiwyg editors, buttons, photographs, site promotion, and much more.
![]() Barleigh Graphic Design http://www.barleigh.com/html/design_intro.html There are some good tips for budding designers of web graphics on these pages. The tips are based on using Photoshop, but with a little imagination they can be adapted to other graphics programs such as PaintShop Pro. There's also a nice selection of buttons and backgrounds you can download.
![]() GrafX Design http://www.grafx-design.com/tutorials.html Like some of the other links here, this site is intended to publicise a design company and also the book written by the author. The site includes a number of tutorials on using graphics packages such as Adobe Photoshop, CorelDraw and JASC's Paint Shop Pro. The Paint Shop Pro tutorial covers creating a 3D button, shadow text, embossed text and many other techniques.

![]() Poor Richard's Web Site http://www.poorrichard.com "Geek-Free, Commonsense Advice on Building a Low-Cost Web Site" is how the author (Peter Kent) describes his site. It's actually designed to promote his book of the same name, but it also contains a wealth of information useful to anyone who want to build their web site without spending a lot of money. You can also subscribe to a free newsletter which will bring you information about free and low-cost software and services to help you to set up your web site.
![]() i-probe's Web Design Delight http://www.i-probe.com/i-probe/ip_web_main.html It's difficult to know what section to put this site under. Yes, it provides an excellent list of resources (clip art, music, backgrounds, Java scripts, etc.) but it also has sections on web hosting, browser plug-ins, web tools and web site promotion. The Webmasters Reference is also worth more than a passing glance.
![]() A Volition to Publish - A Web Resource Guide http://www.volition.com/htmlguid.html A nice list of a variety of resource links. Subjects cover HTML, Communications, Images, etc.
![]() The Icon Factory http://pixelplace.com/factory.htm A few free graphics including icons, animated GIFs, buttons, backgrounds and page dividers. Nothing fancy but very good. Also gives links other resource sites and to the manufacturers of various graphics software.
![]() WebGround http://www.ip.pt/webground/main.html Textures (background images) are the speciality here. They're divided into section such as Light Greys, Dark Colours, etc. to make them easier to find. You are required to provide a link to WebGround if you use their graphics.

John's Background Page http://cpcug.org/user/jlacombe/backgrnds/johnback.html A number of background images here. Also a good list of alternative sites. ![]() Elated http://www.elated.com/ The offerings here are updated every so often. ![]() CoolText http://www.cooltext.com/ From this site you can get free customised graphics. Simply type in the text you want, choose a typeface, style and colour and wait for the finished article. There's a reasonably large selection both of styles and typefaces. See the top of our Home Page for an example.
Surf Madison's Font and Graphics Library Note new URL http://surfmadison.com/library.htm Not a fancy site, just a list of hundreds of freely downloadable fonts, graphics and programs.
![]() The Midi Farm http://www.midifarm.com/ Everything to do with sound on the internet is here including over 4000 free midi and karaoke files. If you can't find the tune you want here, it probably isn't available!
![]() The Java Boutique http://javaboutique.internet.com/ This site has a number of Java applets for you to download, and also articles on Java. A good site if you can't write your own Java applets but would like to use them on your site.

You should also take a look at their Useful URLs page at http://www.hwg.org/resources/useful.html.
