Minutes For July 6, 1999

 

 

 

 

Meeting called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Restivo, Acting Chairman.  A quorum was established.  The following members of the Acting Executive Committee were present:

 

              Robert Restivo, Acting Chairman

              James Robinson, Acting Vice Chairman

              James Turner, Acting Secretary

              Mike Benton, Acting Treasurer

              Mike Brady, Acting Member at Large

 

 

Agenda Item 1:

 

Discussion regarding bylaw ratification.  Bylaw ratification postponed until next meeting due to printing error.  Bylaws to be re-emailed to list, and mailed to all interested.

 

Questions raised about membership guidelines in Section II, paragraph D(1).  Specifically, this paragraph would disqualify everyone from being a member until after March, 2000 primary.

 

Remainder of discussion tabled until next meeting, pending review of complete, correct proposed bylaws.

 

Agenda Item 2:

 

Nominations taken for Acting Executive Committee.  The following were nominated from the floor:  Robert Restivo, Chairman; James Robinson, Vice-Chairman; Jim Turner, Secretary; Mike Benton, Treasurer; Mike Brady, Member at Large.

 

Suggested re-naming of “Member at Large” to “Sergeant at Arms”.  Pending draft of duties by Mike Brady.

 

Temporary election of nominees by acclamation, subject to confirmation at next meeting following adoption of bylaws.  All positions are temporary, with terms of office to expire at the County Convention on May 2, 2000.

 

Agenda Item 3:

 

Discussed (out of order) assisting with ASU Campus Libertarians chapter.  Last chapter registered on campus in 1995.  Decided further investigation is warranted.

 

Discussed need for establishing media contacts.  No action taken.

 

Outreach activities are priority.  Target of opportunity is the gun show, July 24 & 25 (dates to be confirmed).  Restivo assigned to investigate/secure table space at show.  Volunteers will be sought to man during show hours.

 

Discussed mailings to Republicans and non-voters.  Costs to be evaluated.

 

Discussed local campaign strategy.  Goal of consolidated campaign management for elections.  Goal to field County Commissioner candidates in Nov, 2000.  Priority on SAISD and GCISD elections in May, 2001.  Goal to field City Council candidates, also.
