EMERGENCY STATEMENT OF THE ALL BURMA STUDENTS DEMOCRATIC ORGANIZATION (AUSTRALIA) ON THE PREVAILING POLITICAL SITUATION IN BURMA

All Burma Students’ Democratic Organisation for the information of the Burmese patriots in Australia, Burmese organisation and affiliations striving for Burma’s democracy, Australians and the Australian government and global community with democratic ideals for Burma.

1.We firmly regard that the prevailing political situation in Burma as the most crucial in a decade of Burma’s historical struggle for democracy.

2.We firmly profess that the 13-point proposal as outlined by Daw Aung San Suu Kyi led National League for Democracy, as the will and the desire of all the peoples of Burma.

3.The prevailing chaos in Burma as the culmination of the SPDC negligence of future Burma’s interests, refusing to peaceful negotiations to resolve problems and violent repression.

4.The SPDC is entirely responsible for all the prevailing political upheavals in Burma.

5.The All Burma Students’ Democratic Organisation (Australia) warmly welcomes the advent of a constructive negotiation as proposal in the number (4) clause (an open access to a peaceful negotiation at all times) of the 13 -point proposal by Daw Aaung San Su Kyi led National League for Democracy.

6.We believe that the NLD refusal to acknowledge the National Convention by the SPDC, and the preparation and call for National Assembly to convene before August 21, 1998 as vital for the emergence of a democratic constitution and democratic Union of Burma.

7.The All Burma Students’ Democratic Organization (Australia) places the active demands of the people of Burma led by Daw Aung San Su Kyi as the principal political priority and undertaking in Burma and supports it accordingly.

8.We profess, as our historical endeavor of the 8888 pro-democracy movement, to monitor closely the changing politics in Burma and to act in concert and balance, internally and internationally.

9.We urge, all, international governments, non-governmental organizations, Burmese patriots and the democracy-loving people of Burma, who are striving for Burma’s democracy to operate and struggle with us in this hour of our urgency, as an historical undertaking for the future of Burma.

"Solidarity for Democracy in Burma"

All Burma Students’ Democratic Organization.
