Conference Declaration
The
sixth conference of All Burma Students Democratic Organisation
was held at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) on
3rd and 4th of July 1999. It was actively participated by
Burmese student activists from Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.
It was notably attended by students representatives of the
National Union of Students (NUS) amongst others, supporters
(New South Wales State Parliamentary Secretary of Greens MP,
representative from Australian Manufacturing Workers Union,
AMWU, greeting message from Australian Council of Trade Union,
Sydney University, ACTU, etc….) and observers came to successful
conclusion.
The convention has been called into attention that the prevailing
political situation in Burma and earnestly discussed the effectiveness
rendered on the international politics, including ASEAN (Association
of South East Asia Nations), as a result of present changes
in Burma's politics.
As a consequence and based on the basic of politics, the resolution
on future steps to be taken are, hereby, publicised as follows.
The
Policy
The All Burma Students Democratic
Organisation believes in unarmed non-violent political means,
as a measure, in resolving Burma's general conflicts.
Unarmed and non-violent measures will
be undertaken in implementing Burma's internal and external
matters as decided and resolved.
Internal Affairs
It is resolved that;
- the promulgation of the democratic
constitution is an indispensable task in the establishment
of the new democratic Burma.
- with an aim to promulgate a democratic
constitution as per 1990 election result, the Committee
Representing People's Parliament (CRPP) is the only political
entity, legally entrusted with the convening of the People's
Parliament and as supported by the people of Burma.
- the principal priority of the ABSDO
is to render support in all the endeavours of the CRPP
in convening of the People's Parliament according to the
1990 election result.
- the prevailing Burma's politics and
situation earnestly support the convening of the People's
Parliament by CRPP as a highest authority of people of
Burma.
- the primary political priority of
ABSDO is to render support in all political undertakings
in Burma and support internal political activities in
accordance with all democratic forces.
- ABSDO supports Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s
call on peaceful dialogue and urges the military regime,
State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) to enter substantial
dialogue with CRPP.
International Affairs
We, ABSDO,
- resolved to pressure global governments
and organisations to impose economic sanctions and arms
embargo against the illegal ruling military regime, State
Peace and Development Council (SPDC).
- earnestly welcome all endeavours
of the global governments, who respect and hold esteem
on democracy and human rights for their part in putting
pressure on SPDC.
- resolved to work and cooperate closely
with the international community who are
endeavouring for Burma's democracy
and human rights.
- resolved to push for more pressure
and action on SPDC by the ASEAN with the Constructive
Intervention in place of Constructive Engagement (Flexible
Engagement) Policy and recognition to the CRPP as the
highest authority of present Burma.
- Urge United Nations to impose tough
measure against the regime including economic sanctions
and exclusion of regime in all UN activities.
- Welcome extension of United States'
ban on further investments in Burma and EU restrictions
while acknowledging to increase tougher action.
Increase Free Burma
9999 Global Day of Action, cooperating with students and democratic
forces around the world.
Australia Affairs
We, ABSDO,
- resolved to cooperate closely
and in solidarity with Burmese students and patriots
in Australia for a democratic Burma.
- welcome NUS (National Union
of Students) supports and encouragement on our organisation
as a vital need for Burma's human rights and democracy
movement.
- strengthen the actions and
campaigns of Free Burma Students Network established by
ABSDO and NUS .
- decided to cooperate with
all organisations and people of Australia who are endeavouring
for Burma's democracy and human rights.
- intimate the Australian Commonwealth
and state Governments that trade economic sanctions on
SPDC and recognise CRPP, are the important criterions
for Burma's human rights and democracy movement.
- Urge all Australian companies
to withdraw from Burma and stop doing business with regime
until the People's Parliament is convened.

Affairs
The
sixth conference;
- limited a one year term for
the sixth conference.
- elected the new central committee
for the term of sixth conference.
- assigned duties to implement
all decisions of the sixth conference and to watch closely
towards the current political situation inside Burma.
