EDGEfest'98 Econoline Crush

~EDGEfest '97 Program Guide - EC~

Who says that heartache isn't good for you? Econoline Crush's leader Trevor Hurst harnessed the emotions of a "torturous break-up" in writing the songs for his band's newest disc, THE DEVIL YOU KNOW. The Vancouver group has a history of unleashing angst in its music - the EP PURGE and the full-length debut AFFLICTION were all about fury - so you shouldn't be suprised.
It all started when Hurst answered an ad for musicians placed by Tom Ferris (ex-Moev) and the two began writing electronic-based pop. Since then, Ferris has moved on and Econoline Crush has seen a number of line-ups, the current one including Robbie Morfitt (guitars), Ziggy (guitars), Ken Fleming (bass), Robert Wagner (drums) and Statik (programming). The band has toured extensively across Canada and Europe, playing with (amongst others), The Tea Party, The Young Gods, Die Krupps and (no joke!) KISS.
Although the band could be called industrial (it was worked with Front Line Assembly's Rhys Fulber) or metal (PURGE was nominated for a Hard Rock Juno Award), the six-piece would probably just call its music high-intensity rock. You might even agree with The Vancouver Sun, which said that "metal, industrial, anthem-rock riffs and psychadelia-paced synths come together in a high-voltage blow-out of the bizarre." Or you could just hang out at the Edgefest second stage and make up your own definition!
