EDGEfest'98 Econoline Crush

~EDGEfest '98 Program Guide - EC~

"I remember when I used to write songs, I'd get so excited I'd want to play them immediately for my firends," says Econoline Crush singer Trevor Hurst. That enthusiasm for live performance, coupled with extensive touring in Canada, Europe, and the U.S., should guarantee a highspeen wrecking ball of guitars and drum beats at their EDGEfest appearence.
From the thrashy industrial rhythms and monstrous guitars of their first few records - the PURGE EP (1994) and the AFFLICTION album (1995) - Econoline Crush have grown into a state-of-the-art, high intensity rock band on their latest release, THE DEVIL YOU KNOW (which has sold almost 100,000 copies in Canada).
The DEVIL got its due, spawning a hugely successful Canadian single in the remixed "All That You Are (x3)"; a high-charting American radio hit, "Home"; and opening-sequence appearence of the song "The Devil You Know" on Melrose Place; and their latest pop-chart salvo, "Sparkle and Shine".
"I want to see how far we can take this thing", says the ambitious Hurst. "How far can this band from East Van go?"
Though the core Econoline-up of Hurst and guitarists Robbie Morfirr and Ziggy has been together awhile, a new rhythm section of bassist Thom Christiansen and drummer Nico Quintal now round out the crew.
But Hurst write the lyrics, and the ones of the DEVIL were inspired by the dissolution of a tumultous relationship. As Hurst recently told CHART magazine:
"Songwriting is kind of like it's my therapist, and I get to unload...Playing those songs live now adds closure to the relationship."
Closure for him should mean a great time for you.
