This section of The Gloaming will discuss various people and events which make up the darker side of the history of humanity. It is important to remember the depths to which we have sunk in our quest for "civilization" over the centuries. As apalling as some of the acts man has committed upon man are, it is amazing we have attained the level of "civilized" behavior extant in the world today---although there are, unfortunately, still areas of the world in which atrocities are routinely committed. By bringing to light the darker side of human nature, it is to be hoped that we can keep from repeating the "sins" of the past, and can work toward ensuring a world-wide respect for the integrity of life and freedom for everyone.
