Oconee vs. Central Gwinnett

Oconee won 33-12 over the Central Gwinnett Black Knights on September 18. The Warriors totally dominated the game in the first half, scoring on their first 6 possessions and taking the lead at halftime 30-12. The Black Knights kicked off to Oconee to start the game, and the Warriors scored on a 1-yard run by Jerry Willoughby. The 2 pt conversion failed. The defense held Central, and when Oconee got the ball back, they were backed up on 3rd down and 20, when Luke Bishop broke a 42-yard run off a counter. The 2 pt conversion again failed. Central Gwinnett then scored off a 51 yard end around. From there it was pretty much all Oconee. Bishop scored on another TD on a 4-yard run. He then caught the 2 pt attempt from Clayton Matthews. Central Gwinnett would score one last time, on a 57-yard halfback pass. Tyson Browning scored his 4th touchdown of the year on a 15-yard run. Then with 5 seconds before halftime, Matthews hit a 46-yard field goal, just 2 yards short of the school record. The halftime score was Oconee 30 Central Gwinnett 12.

Matthews hit another field goal from 13 yards out early in the third quarter, and that was it for scoring. The second half had Oconee playing a lot of younger players. Still they didnt give up any points. It was a good opportunity to get some second teamers and JV guys some game experience.

Notables include: Sophomore Clayton Matthews, in only his second varsity start, was 7-13 for 89 yards. Willie Johnson, also starting only his second game and not even playing last year, had 3 sacks. Luke Bishop had 89 yards rushing on 10 carries. Oconee had 24 first downs on the night. Oconee averaged over a point a minute in the 1st half.
