Oconee vs. Habersham Central
Oconee won its homecoming game Friday 59-12 over Habersham Central. Oconee struck first as the Raiders were penned deep into their own territory. Under heavy pressure, QB Austin York scrambled and tried to dump it off into the flats. But Junior defensive tackle David Seawright was right there and intercepted the pass and ran it back 3 yards for a touchdown. Later in the quarter, the Warriors drove down the field and Luke Bishop punched it in from 3 yards out. The PAT was no good.
The 2nd quarter is when the Warriors really turned it on. Bishop scored on a 36 yard run. Clayton Matthews converted the 2 point conversion. The Warrior defense held once again. Then Matthews scored on a 57 yard run up the middle, where he out ran the entire Habersham defense. Now, it was the Raiders turn to do a little scoring as York hooked up with Stafford 2 times. That would be all the raiders could muster in the game though. Jerry Willoughby scored on a 6 yard pass from Matthews with 1:11 to go before the half. The Warriors werent done though. Matthews hit a 19 yard field goal with no time left in the half, to give the Warriors a commanding 38-12 lead.
The second half saw many younger players, but was still productive. The Warriors started with their first teamers and then substituted. Luke Bishop who finished with 96 yards on 10 carries scored his 3rd TD from 1 yard out. Tyson Browning tacked on a 5 yard run. He finished with 8 carries for 92 yards and one TD. Sophomore Curtis Mahaffey scored a 35 yard run and that would do it for scoring. Oconee set a school record for total offence with 554 yards.
Next up is the game that will decide the region title: Stephens County.
