Oconee vs Stephens

The game was all it was supposed to be—for Stephens County. The Indians all but secured their 2nd consecutive region championship with a 14-7 win over Oconee. It was the Warriors first loss of the season. The Warriors lack of big game experience hurt them as they used 2 timeouts on the opening drive and they had 11 penalties for 65 yards.

The game was a defensive struggle from the onset. Neither team could move, and there wasnt a first down in the 1st quarter. Stephens County scored late in the 2nd quarter on an Atari Hayes scored on a 15 yard run. The Warriors got the ball back, but fumbled it on their third offensive play. Stephens would capitalize as Omar Hayes scored on an 8 yard run with 14 seconds left to play.

The Warriors received the kickoff to begin the second half, and mounted a long scoring drive. Clayton Matthews hit JT Cape on a 9 yard pass and then Matthews hit the extra point to make the score 14-7. However, the Warriors had to take 2 timeouts on that drive.

From there it was all defense. Nobody could move and the Warriors were cursed will bad field position for the rest of the night. They would have to start inside the 10 twice late in the game. Oconee would burn its final timeout midway through the 4th and Stephens would be able to run out the clock. The Warriors will now more than likely end up 9-1 and #2 in the region.

If we had to lose, its better in game 7 than in game 11.
