Oconee vs. Stone Mountian
Oconee defeated the Stone Mountian Pirates 31-7 Friday night in the first playoff game of the year. Senior running back Luke Bishop scored on a 64 yard run the second play from scrimmage. Stone Mountian came right back as DeKalb County player of the year, BJ Edwawrds took a toss sweep and turned it into a 52 yard run. Stone Mountian was held to 4th down near the Warrior endzone. Instead of kicking the field goal, the Pirates elected to go for it. Defensive End Willie Johnson wrapped up QB Jatavis Sanders for a 7 yard loss. Jerry Willoughby busted loose for a 31 yard run which would set up the Warriors second TD of the night, a 21 yard pass for Clayton Matthews to Tyson Browning. In the 2nd quarter Sanders scored the lone Stone Mountian TD on a 39 yard run. Oconee answered back with a 50 yard run by Luke Bishop. Then with 1 second left in the half, Matthews hit a 33 yard field goal to make the score 24-7 Oconee.
The second half was a defensive battle. The Warriors would hold the Pirates scoreless and the Pirates would shut down the Oconee offense. Bishop scored the lone Oconee TD in the second half, a 33 yard interception return in the 4th quarter. Bishop finished the night with 10 carries for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jerry Willoughby had 15 carries for 190 yards. Matthews was 6 of 8 passing for 54 yards and 1 touchdown. Next up is the Dalton Catamounts in Dalton.
