Oconee vs. Winder-Barrow
The Warriors took a 36-19 victory in Winder on September 4. The Warriors got off to a fast start by recovering a Bulldogg fumble on the first play and scoring on a Tyson Browning 16 yard run on Oconees first offensive play of the season. Newcomer Tyson Browning had a very strong night finishing with 8 carries for 131 yards, and had 3 touchdowns, all coming in the first half.
After the Warriors went up 7-0 21 seconds into the game, they may have appeared to relax. Winder drove down the field and scored with 2:12 left in the first quarter when their QB, Musser hit Clack for a 30 TD pass.
From there it was all OC. Browning had a spectacular 75 yard touchdown run to make the score 14-7. He added another one before halftime, a 4 yard run, to put OC up 21-7.
At the start of the second half, Oconee drove down the field and Jerry Willoughby scored on a 1 yard run. All this time, Oconee would show flashes, but overall, didnt play up to their full potential.
Luke Bishop, had a big night rushing 8 times for 186 and 1 touchdown. That TD came at the end of the third quarter on a 4 yard run. Luke was the starting quarterback last year, but was moved to halfback for his senior season. Sophomore Clayton Matthews was the starting QB. He only attempted one pass, which was incomplete.
Going into the 4th quarter, the score was 36-7. Oconee started playing subs. Winder, however left in their first team. They added two more TDs and had the PAT blocked on one, and their 2 pt conversion failed on the second one.
Overall, it was a good night to be a Warrior. Oconee didnt play as well as they could have, but it was a win and the Warriors will take it.
Next week the Warriors are off before hosting Central Gwinnett in the first game of the region schedule on September 18.
