Object of the game : The game begins with each king in the corner of the bottom level. The goal is to either put your opponents king in check like in normal chess, or to get your king to his throne which is located on the opposite corner of the board on the top or 7th level.
Number of Players : The game can be played with 2-4 players. A four player game can be played as 2 teams, or as 4 individuals.
The game board is made up of 7 levels, each level consisting of 7 squares long and 7 squares wide for a total of 49 squares per level, 343 squares in total.
There are two types of possible moves which can used : Chess style move : Occurs on one level.
Cubic style move : Occurs from level to level.
Basic Piece Movement : Same as regular Chess except now pieces can move up or down.
King : Can step on any square one at a time, in any direction.
Queen : Can step on any number of squares in a straight or diagonal line, including the Royal Slope move.
Archer - Bishop : Can move any number of squares on the diagonal on the same level, but can also move through the cube any number of squares on a cubic diagonal slant.
Castle - Rookette : Can move any number of squares forward, backward, up, down, left or right.
Horseman - Horsewoman : Can move 2+1 or 1+2 squares in any right angle direction, either on the same level or to different levels.
Jack : Moves the same as the castle, except one square or level at a time, and can never move down a level, or backwards in the game. The Jack must move towards his own kings throne.
Special Moves :
Archer : Has a unique move. If the path of his move takes to the edge of the board, he can ricochet one square in from the edge of the board, either up or down one level, or remain on the same level.
Jack : If the Jack reaches the top level he becomes a Joker, and the Joker is wild. He can mimic the moves of any piece.
Bishop : If the Archer is taken, the Bishop can use one turn to move to a black square and become an Archer if it will not put the opposing player into check or checkmate.
Royal Slope : Only the King and Queen can do this move. Moving from the black square to the white square on the level above in a cubic right angle slant is called the Royal Slope move
Winning the game : Like in chess, the game is
won when the king is put into checkmate. Cubic Chess can also be won when
the King takes his throne. However the King cannot take the throne if it
would put him into check.
