The new football coach for Newtown HIgh School is Ken Roberts. Roberts served as an assistant at Newtown to Bob Zito-now football coach at Stratford-the last two seasons. Roberts was among seven candidates for the position, including McMahon coach Rob Trifone, former St. Joesph coach Christy Hayes, and Cheshire coach Mark Ecke.

Roberts played high school ball at Shelton, where he graduated in 1986. After graduation, Roberts became an assistant coach under Bob Riggio. He spent nine seasons at Shelton as an assistant, also serving under Tony Branca and Joe Benanto.

Roberts will keep assistants Joe Lato, John Larkins, and Frank Durante. He intends to hire Branca as an assistant. He will take over a team that went 6-3-1 last season.
