Our
Lady Peace's first release was the five time platinum selling album, Naveed.
It was released in Canada on Sony Music in May 1994, and a year later in
the states, on Relativity. Since then, it has sold over 400,000 copies
in Canada and ultimately half-a-million around the world. The album was
produced by Arnold Lanni of Frozen Ghost fame, a "real honest guy, a straight
up kind of person", at Arnyard Studios in Toronto. The title is named for
a friend of Raine's that means bearer of good news. While doing the artwork,
OLP sought out the help of Saul Fox (the guy on the cover), who helped
them with their vision of "trying to project the soul of young people in
a world which seemed to be different from their's". The characters on the
CD are Persian for Our Lady Peace.

"Naveed
is the ancient Middle Eastern name for bearer of good news. We took the
concept of Naveed and placed it into the dark optimism of our music. Naveed
is a constant quest to obtain knowledge, possessed with the desire to grow
mentally and spiritually. We have forced Naveed to travel the distance
between mysticism and bitter reality." - Raine Maida
