RICHARD E. PAIVA, 61, of Valley Street, a security guard, retiring in 1982, died Monday at home. Born in Whitman, Mass., a son of the late Joseph T. and Arlene (Hammond) Paiva, he lived in Providence for six years, in Pawtucket for 15 years, and in Bristol before that. Mr. Paiva was a truck driver for Federal Products.

He leaves a companion, Eva LaChance of Providence; a brother, Alfred Paiva of Pembroke, Mass., and a nephew. He was the brother of the late Joseph Paiva.

The funeral and burial will be private.
