You will recall that the U.S. Constitution became effective when it was ratified in conventions held in nine of the original states. In a number of these conventions the delegates were against ratifying the Constitution because they feared that many basic rights of the people could be taken away by the national government. To satisfy those delegates it was agreed that the Constitution would be promptly amended to prohibit the government from taking away these basic rights. The following questions relate to those amendments.
