It was Sunday. Each team had just finished their training for the day. Both teams sat around a big campfire and ate the dinner which Ria and Marie cooked.
"Yum! This is Great! I didn't know you guys could cook." "Those two are good cooks, but be very careful. They could put anything on your food." "He's right. You guys better watch out. Especially you, Kurama." "But why me?" "They like you. They could make a love potion or something and put it in your meal." "Um… I think I just lost my appetite." "Hey, Karasu, you're right! Why didn't I think of that?" They ate their dinner and told different stories until it was late. "It's late. We'd better go." "You're right." They put out the campfire and went to their cottages. Marie and Ria followed Sakyo to his building.
At the Toguro Team's cottage, in Karasu's room, Karasu was twisting and turning on his bed.
"Can't sleep?" Karasu saw Marie in his window. Marie went in and sat on the bedside "I guess not." "Feel sorry about laughing at Hiei?" "Maybe." "Why don't you go to him and apologize?" "I don't know if that's the reason why I can't sleep. Every time I close my eyes, I see horrible and weird stuff." "Like?" "Getting smashed between two wheels. Or being beaten up with a whip with a lot of thorns. Like Kurama's Rose Whip." "You're starting to remember." "I also see a child, about five years old."
"I remember!"
"That's great!" "I was about eight years old. I was looking at some trees. They were beautiful. I wanted to blow them up when I saw a cute little girl about five years old. It was Ria. She walked up to me and asked me if I was Karasu. I felt her ki. It was weak. So I told her that I was." "Same case as Hiei." "She looked cute, better than those trees. Naturally, I wanted to blow her up. So, we had a little chase. I was having a lot of fun throwing bombs. I didn't know she was having fun, too. Then, when I finally held her by the arm, she threw me on the ground and held me tight. She was too strong for me. She dragged me to this weird place. It looks like a lab."
"Just like Hiei?"
"Yes! That's right. And then, her powers increased. That's when I found out that she could hide her powers completely if she wanted to." "I've heard this before! Hiei already said that! Couldn't you even … rephrase your sentence?" "She had both Rei ki and You ki. Like you. She showed me a videotape entitled "The Black Chapter, Revised" and put it inside a VHS player which was connected to a yellow headgear. She put the headgear over my head and over my eyes. Then, I was placed in a room with humans doing all sorts of horrible stuff to me. I liked watching movies and videos about youkai and humans getting hurt, but not with me as the victim."
"I felt like I was going to die. I wanted that to happen, but it was like getting killed but not dying."
"There you go again! Hiei will sue you for repeating what he said." "He didn't copyright it! Anyway, I was sent from one torture to another, and each one seemed like it was going to last forever. I heard her laugh. She was enjoying herself. Then she stopped. I heard her ran out of the door. She left me there for a little while, but it seemed like eternity. I heard someone rush in and took the headgear off. Then, I saw, it was you." "You remembered! I went in my sister's lab and saw you crying." "Was I?" "Yes." "And you hugged me tight!" "That's right."
"Hahahahaha!"
"Heeheeheehee!" The door opened. Marie and Karasu saw Toguro Ani and Bui, laughing. "Stop laughing at Karasu! Bui! I thought Karasu was your friend!" "Heehee! Sorry, I just thought that it would be funny to see Karasu cry. Heeheehee!" "Is that so?! Here, take this!" Marie pointed at Bui and Toguro Ani and butterflies appeared around her arm. "Get them!" The butterflies flew at Bui and Toguro Ani, and chased them away. "Let's see who's laughing now!"
Marie heard a giggle from the open window. Karasu and Marie looked out and saw Kurama.
"Kurama." Marie whispered sadly. "Kurama! Why you--! I'll get you!" Karasu formed a bomb in his hand. "I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to laugh at you, Karasu. I just couldn't help but hear your conversation with Marie. I'm really sorry." Karasu was about to throw a bomb when, "STOP!!!" Marie took the bomb away from Karasu and made it disappear in her hand. "Kurama said he was sorry." Marie looked at Kurama. "Go on, Kurama. I'll talk to him." Marie said and closed the window.
"What kind of friend are you!? You're not even helping me blow Kurama up!"
"I like Kurama. You know that." "I don't care! Kurama is OUR enemy! He's a member of the Urameshi Team! You're a member of the Toguro Team! Kurama and his friends are our enemies. You know that!" "Why do we have to be enemies? I want the Urameshi Team to be our friends." "Fine! Be their friend! Who cares! Just remember, I don't have friends who like my enemies. You may leave now." "But, Karasu--" "Just go to Kurama! That's what you like, don't you?" "Alright. I'll go. If it'll make you feel better." Marie headed to the door. "Sorry Karasu." She said sadly as she went out. "Saying sorry won't do anything."
Outside, Hiei was chasing a youkai.
"You coward! Come back here!" Ria, who was on a branch of an apple tree, was picking apples. Her basket got filled and an apple fell on one of the lower branch. She reached down to get it, but the branch broke and poor Ria fell on even poorer Hiei. "RIA!!! Why you--! You let him get away!" "But…" "Will you stop following me! I'm sick of you fooling around me all the time." "But I was just--" "I am not your best friend! I don't know when I became your best friend! Why don't you just leave me alone!!" "But it was an accident." "I don't care! Leave me alone!" Hiei got up and left, right away.
Crying, Ria ran to Sakyo's building. She went to a lab in the basement. When she went in, she saw Marie wailing. When Marie saw Ria, she wiped her tears.
"What happened?" "Hiei doesn't like me anymore. What about you?" "Karasu got mad at me." The two girls started crying again. "I don't want Karasu to get mad at me. He's my best friend. He needs a girlfriend. He doesn't understand how I feel about Kurama because he never fell in love before. That's it! I'll give him a girlfriend." Marie thought as a smile appeared on her face.
"Hiei doesn't like me anymore. All right, I'll get out of his life. But there would be no one to take care of him. Kurama would be in the Ningenkai and couldn't watch over Hiei. I know! I'll clone Kurama. I'll give the clone to Hiei and keep the real one for myself."
Ria thought. The two girls smiled and looked at each other. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" "Give our best friends someone to love. Like a girlfriend." "No! We clone Kurama. Give our best friends a clone to take care of them. And we keep the original one for ourselves."Then, a mischievous smile formed on their faces.
