Who Should Be the Starting Goalie

By Eric J. Burton AKA "Fabulous Sports Goon"
This week I am going to look at the Fighting Sioux starting goalie
situation and what I think is going to happen. Karl Goehring is leading
the nation in goaltending. His numbers this year could break a lot
of the Fighting Sioux goalie records. His numbers are really just too
good to be sitting on the bench. This Saturday, in a interview on WDAZ-TV, Blais
basically said on Friday that he is going to have to go with
Karl during the big games, although it not quite crunch time each game
counts and the Sioux can not afford to let a goalie play that has not
proved himself. I bet it would be different if the Sioux were leading the
division, but the truth is that they are not. So expect Aaron to play on
Saturday this week and Goehring to start both games against St. Cloud.
Karl has earned the right to play, by making the big stops and has come up
big and that is what starting goalies have to do.

*A couple of players I would like to see the Sioux sign from the USHL are
Mark Cullen and Mark Bry both from the Fargo Ice Sharks. Both players show a
nack for the puck and have a tendency to put the biscuit in the basket.
Bry has 4-16 for 20 points in 34 games that is good for top 5 scoring
amoung defensemen in the USHL. Cullen is 14-30 in 22 games and is
curently on the shelf with a wrist injury. Look for these players to go
some where because they are just to skilled to be over looked.

*I was listening to the Peter Brown show of one on one sports off A.M.
1280 The Ticket in Fargo N.D. and Peter Brown a national sindicated radio
personality, and the he was discussing when it was appropriate to
make excusesfor teams losing? When is it all right to make excuses
for failure? Apparently, the Star Tribune feels it is all right because
they have been making excuses for the current condition of the Golden
(Choker) Gopher Hockey team. Clymer is hurt, Crowley is gone, Kraft broke
his wrist, bla, bla, bla. In fact it is hard to tell that there is any
college hockey going on, the Tribs coverage of college hockey has been
poor this year. When a coach makes excuses for their team poor play you
automatically except defeat, in fact you may condone it. Last season in the
NCAA's Woog complained about his unfair draw and sealed his team fate right
there. A good coach would have welcomed the draw. Which is actually what Jack
Parker of B.U. did he went out and won, I didn't here any complaining comming
         from the Terriers.

*This weeks predictions: against MTU, the Sioux will sweep but they are
going to have to work for them. Sioux win 4-3 in OT. Friday, and 6-2 on
Saturday. In other Games, the Huskies will split with UMD a 4-3 loss on
Friday followed up by a 5-1 win. DU Sweeps Minnesota 6-1 and 6-5 in
         Minnesota.
