Bob Gray's Bottom Ten (3/8/99)
The Bottom Ten (3/8/99)

It looks like everybody's making a hard run at moving up the poll at the
end of the season. Not much change this week, with the top seven teams
all being swept and last week's Bottom Ten exhibiting a 2-16 overall record.
Brown, LSSU, Niagara, and Mass-Amherst all drop out of the honorable
mention category following successful weekends. No big Bottom Ten matches
this week, as conference tournaments begin. Who knows, maybe with a couple
of upsets, one of the Bottom Tenners could make a big move this weekend.

1. Fairfield (1-27-0, 1-30-0)
Lost 8-2 and 9-1 to Canisius. Allowed 119 shots on goal in the two games.

2. Union (1-19-2, 3-26-3)
If nothing else, they are consistent, with two 5-0 shutouts at the hands
of Yale and Princeton. They went 0-10 on the power play last weekend.

3. Sacred Heart (7-20-1, 7-22-1) Two losses to UCONN keeps them at #3.

4. (tie) Minnesota-Duluth (4-20-4, 7-25-4) They lost leads in both
games at Colorado College last weekend. Two more games against CC this
coming weekend. Michigan Tech (9-19-0, 9-26-1) Have now lost 12 of
their last 14.

6. Air Force (15-19-2) Swept by Niagara.

7. Western Michigan (5-17-8, 6-20-8) Lost to Northern Michigan and LSSU.

8. UNO (11-24-0) Split with MSU-Mankato.

9. Northeastern (6-16-2, 11-20-3) Lost to Lowell. Beat Providence.

10. (tie) Alaska-Fairbanks (8-21-1, 11-22-1) Idle. Army (16-16-3) Idle.
Merrimack (7-16-1, 11-22-1) A couple of losses brings them back in at
number 10.

Honorable Mention: Miami (9-17-4, 11-20-5), Dartmouth (6-14-2,
10-17-2).

Standard Disclaimer: This poll is meant to be fun and get people to
follow teams that are not doing very well this season. I'm treating
the MAAC teams as though they are roughly equivalent to the teams in
the other conferences, even though they are generally not as strong,
since this poll is just for fun anyway.
