Big Ten Hockey. After reading the Grand Forks Herald the other day I came to this conclusion. While the Big Ten hockey conference seems like a really good Idea and it would be a really great hockey division. However, it will never happen. Here is why: Minnesota does not really want to do this, trust me. Last year Minnesota did terribly agains the WCHA and non-conference apponents. Against the two Michigans they were 0-2. In fact, Minnesota has not fared well against the Wolverines the past few years losing in the playoffs and during The NCAA tournament the year before (counting the Gophers were screwed game where they were pasted 0-3 against Michigan in the last 2 years). I do not believe that Minnesota really wants to play MSU, Michigan eight times a year. Add the Badgers in the mix, and they would probably be no better than 6-6 in those games. Ohio State is becoming a good hockey team also which means some one is going to be losing a lot of games. Add UND C.C. and UMD and the Gophers are going to lose a lot of games. Given the GOPHS play of late I would say if would probably be them. Have 1000.00, will be able to buy seat. UND has now joined the Gophers in becoming a corporate school. Now the common fan has been pushed to the side to make room for the rich fans that will come to see the fighting Sioux. At every home game we will now be seeing the Marirucci sellouts, seats sold but no one sitting in them. No one will be able to buy a ticket unless you are able to put up a grand. That will get your butt in the door. The administration tried to take the students seats but the student president stood his ground and told the administration no. Thanks Jon for your leadership. Englestad was built with the help of the students and students funds and as long as it is open, no UND STUDENT IS SUPPOSED TO BE TURNED AWAY, I bet most UND students did not know that.. I know one way to elleviate this problem put pipes in Aurora and we will be able to sell more tickets for the big games and have regional tourneys. Hey who is in charge of this building. Talk to Dean Blais he is all for the idea and I would bet that a lot of people are too. Maybe the games could be put on TV also since they will be a hot item this year. Stay tuned the Goon looks at the WCHA next.
