It is with pleasure that we include this brief about Ms Vinita Gupta, our alumnus of the year 1973 and currently chairperson of Digital Link Corporation at Sunnyvale, California. Ms Gupta received a bachelor of engineering degree in electronics and communications. She earned her master of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of California, Los Angles. From March 1978 to February 1985, Ms Gupta held various engineering management positions at Bell Northern Research, Inc., a research and development arm of Northern Telecom, Ltd. Prior to that, she was an engineer with GTE Lenkurt.

She founded Digital Corporation in May 1985, and served as the company’ s president and its chief executive officer. She has been the company’s chairperson since inception. While Ms Gupta’s background was engineering, she hired an engineer and took charge of the marketing, sales, finance, purchasing and manuf acturing functions. Today, she has built a strong, global organization with more then $ 65 million in revenues (1997). Digital Link Corporation, designs, manufacturers, markets and supports a broad range of digital WAN access products for global networks. These products are used by service providers as infrastructure equipment and by business enterprises and Internet service providers for connection to WAN services such as leased lines, frame relay, SMDS and ATM.

Ms Gupta’s entrepreneurial career has been marked by risk taking, persev erance, and the ability to dive in and grasp new business disciplines. We congratulate her for her brilliant performance of which the Alma Mater can be proud and we hope that it will serve as a role model for some of our young alumni.
