On the recommendation of the Syndicate, a high Level Committee was constituted by the Chancellor under the Chairmanship of Prof. P.V. Indiresan, President of Indian National Academy of Engineering and former Director of IIT Madras, for a comprehensive review of the University system with a view to ensure continued excellence in its functioning. The committee submitted its Report to the Chancellor on May 18, 1998. The recommendations of the committee cover the management of the University; the administrative setup; personnel policies and rationalization of the staff-structure; a comprehensive review of the present funding pattern, and re-organisation of the placement activities. It is expected that the implementation of the recommendations made by the committee will make it possible for the University to maintain and enhance its standing among the foremost centres of teaching, research and extension in sciences, engineering and technology.
