STAR CROSSED MEMORIES 3 By Klutz Part 3 Rating: G Darien smiled as he pulled up in front of Mugen Gruen School. There was a big crowd out front. He parked his motorcycle and pulled of his helmet. Today was the first time they ‘officially’ met their partners for Action Week. He stepped off the bike and walked through the crowd looking for a familiar pair of meatballs. When he realized she wasn’t there yet he sat down on a bench under a shady tree to wait. A few minutes latter Serena came roaring around the corner and into the parking lot, running as fast as she could. She was still eating breakfast (Or trying to at least). Darien waved and she stopped running and walked over, plunking herself down on the bench, breathing hard. “Hey Serena.” He said smiling. “H…Hi…Dar…ien.” She panted. “I…must...be…so…late!” “Nope. You’re ten minutes early, actually.” He said laughing. She looked at him incredulously. “What? My watch says I’m twenty minutes late! Oh… Mom must’ve set it ahead! I’ll get her for that!” She said angrily. Darien laughed and Serena blushed, falling silent. “Well, lets go inside.” Darien said, standing up. He took Serena’s bag and slung it over his shoulder alongside his. Serena looked surprised, but followed him inside to Ms. H’s room. Serena walked in and sat in her regular seat. Darien sat down beside her and passed her her bag. Serena opened it up and took out her breakfast, which she devoured before Ms. H got there. The rest of the class trickled in bit by bit until the room was full. The bell rang and class began. Darien found the class pretty average. Ms. H screamed every once in awhile and had a pretty short temper, but the day went well all in all. He and Serena worked well together piecing together the ‘fictional’ story of the silver millennium. Serena seemed to have tons of memories of it, which she passed off as creativity. By the end of the day they had the characters and major events mapped out and a beginning paragraph. Serena was surprised. Working with Darien was great! He was really smart, not to mention cute. Things just kept popping into her head if he said something and she could describe them in vivid detail, as if she had been there herself (And we all know she was.). At one point she tried to describe a picture of the princess she had in her head, but she couldn’t quite get it. Darien just started talking and described her right down to her shoes. It was as if he could see exactly what she could! Like they were linked… By the end of the day Serena had even developed a microscopic crush on Darien. He was so perfect! The only thing she didn’t like was how sad he looked. Even when he smiled, his eyes were sad. That depressed her. That afternoon they walked home together avidly discussing what should happen in the story. They sat on a bench in the park and argued over weather or not the two main characters should die and what their motivation would be t find each other again if they were re-born. “Well,” started Darien, “The princess stands on this balcony every night staring at the earth, because that’s where the prince is. And one night he comes to the moon and talks to her while she’s on the balcony, and he says-“ Darien was cut off as Serena stared into the sky and says, “’Princess, I have terrible news.’ Then she says ‘You can not come to the ball?’ ‘If it only it were that Princess. This Beryl is more powerful than I thought and she’s going to attack the moon…’” Serena finishes. “That night they go to a ball and dance. Eventually he leads her out the balcony again where she gives him her star locket-“ “So he would always remember her…” she finished softly for him and looked at Darien. “And then…” Darien trailed off as Serena and him seemed to be coming closer together. Serena looked into the familiar gray-blue eyes. There it was again! That sadness that over-lay every other emotion that she saw in him. She felt something click inside her and she closed her eyes, leaning towards him. Darien saw her deep blue eyes staring into his searchingly. Like she could see into his soul. He saw a flash of sadness pass through her eyes before they closed and he leaned in, kissing her softly. Her arms wrapped around his back and he did the same, hugging her tightly to him, afraid he might lose her again. Serena tucked her head under Darien’s chin. She didn’t know what had just happened between them, but she knew it was right. Memories flashed before her eyes. A haunted house. Milk bottles. A Tuxedo Mask doll. An ice crystal hitting someone. A Silver tear, floating. Serena shook her head. “What are all these things?” she wondered aloud. “I’ve never been to a haunted house!” Darien looked down sharply. “Serena?” he paused, remembering Ami’s warning. “Hmm?” she looked up at him. “Nothing, I think I just spaced out for a minute there.” She said, shaking her head again. The sad look returned to Darien’s eyes. “I’d better get you home for dinner.” He said reluctantly. “I’ll pick you up at eight tomorrow for school, ok?” he asked, gathering up their bags. “Sure…” Serena said, staring off into nothing again. Darien dropped Serena off and went home. His emotions were still deciding between elation and depression. He sighed and sat down to eat. ‘Alone.’ He sighed again. Serena walked in the door, all smiles. “Hi mom! What’s for dinner?” she asked, slipping out of her shoes and setting her bag down. “Rice soup!” her mother answered back. “Alright! I’ll be in in a minute!” she called as she raced upstairs. Serena dropped her bag on her bed before racing downstairs to inhale her dinner. It was very loud with her and Sammy arguing and her parents discussing things etc. Still, something inside her not very far away was sad. ‘Alone…’ echoed through her mind. ‘Darien?’ she wondered. ‘No way! Wake up baka-brain! You are not telepathic. You probably just imagined it.’ She tried to convince herself, but still she felt ‘alone’ in one corner of her mind. Serena slept well that night and her mom actually managed to get her out of bed on time to meet Darien out front. She climbed on the back of his motorcycle and they zoomed off to the school. They continued the story in effortless and yet stunning detail. Serena was beginning to suspect she wasn’t seeing the full picture. The scouts seemed to have new respect for her and Darien… Well Darien was Darien, but he was always so sad! ‘What could have made you like this?’ she wondered as she wrote the description of the prince. Endymion she called him, and Darien named the princess Serenity. That seemed very fitting for some reason. She didn’t know why, but that was one of the reasons she suspected she wasn’t remembering something. The story came to her in flashes through the princess’ eyes. She could describe whole sections of the two palaces as though she were walking through them. Each one of the scouts contributed too, saying it was to help Serena pass, but each of them seemed to be ‘walking through memories’ when they described things as well. It was weird. Too weird to be a simple coincidence. That afternoon found Serena and Darien eating lunch outside under a large cherry tree. “Darien?” she asked him finally, “Is there something I’m not remembering? I keep feeling I don’t quite know everything I should and everyone else does. Like I have amnesia or something…” she said thoughtfully. Darien sighed. “Ami told me not to say anything but, yes. You have some small amnesia, but it’s been getting better.” He said reluctantly. “Thanks.” She said. “I really needed the truth from someone. I’m sick of people making hand signals over my head.” she said angrily. Darien smiled and leaned over brushing his lips over hers. “Don’t change Serena.” He whispered. “You’re perfect just the way you are.” He said before giving her another sweet kiss. Serena blushed and leaned against him as she finished the rest of her lunch in thoughtful silence. ‘Please don’t let this be a dream…’ they both thought. Serena raced towards the Hikawa Shrine that afternoon after school. ‘Oh! I’m so late! Rei’s gonna kill me!’ she thought as she skidded to a stop then jogged up the stairs. She ran into the fire reading room panting. “Sorry I’m late you guys, but I was talking to Darien and I have to ask you something!” she said breathlessly. “Sure Serena, ask away.” Said Ami cheerfully. “Why didn’t you tell me I had amnesia? I asked Darien and he told me, but he wouldn’t say what I’ve forgotten!” Ami frowned. “He wasn’t supposed to say anything!” she said furiously. “Please Aims, I just want to know! I have to know!” Serena begged. “It’s killing me!” “No Serena. We can’t tell you! You have to remember on your own- for everyone’s sakes!” Ami pleaded. Serena gave them a pained look, but hung her head resignedly. “Fine. I’m going to the park to think.” She said sadly and walked out the door. Serena let her feet guide her to some unknown destination. She soon found herself leaning over the side of a bridge in the park. The water rippled beneath her as she stared past her reflection at nothing. She sighed. ‘I wish I knew! If only I could remember whatever it is that’s so important!’ “Hey Serena. What are you doing here?” came a familiar voice. Serena turned around to face a smiling Darien. “Oh hi Darien. I was just thinking.” She replied. “Yeah? About what?” he asked, leaning on the railing, standing beside her. “Ami won’t tell me what I forgot. I know it’s important, I just don’t know what or why!” She said in a frustrated tone. She stared at the water again, past their reflections. “I’m sure you’ll remember eventually Serena…” Darien’s voice faded into the background. The water rippled and the scene changed. It was her and Darien. They were entering a haunted house. ‘This looks familiar…’ she thought. She could see herself fall and twist her ankle. Darien was carrying her away. The scene changed again. Darien was winning her a Tuxedo Mask doll. Serena tried to grab hold of the image in her mind but the feeling of familiarity was gone. She ‘awoke’ with a start. “Oh!” she gasped pulling away from the railing. “Serena? What’s wrong?” Darien asked her, placing one hand on her arm. She looked at his hand and then at him. “Why do I get the feeling that we’ve done all this before?” she wondered aloud. “So familiar and yet, so strange… And these flashes aren’t helping…” she murmured to herself, trying unsuccessfully to make sense of it all. She shook her head. “What did you see?” he asked her, trying not to sound anxious. “Us in a haunted house. I twisted my ankle and you carried me out. Then I saw you win me a Tuxedo Mask doll. I think it really happened. Did it?” she asked hopefully, looking up at him. Darien smiled. “Yes, it did! Do you, uh, remember anything else?” Serena shook her head. “Nope.” “That’s ok. Let’s go celebrate,” he said taking her hand. They went back to Darien’s house and ate chocolate sundaes (Of course he just happened to have chocolate ice cream because we all know how much Darien loves chocolate…). Then they sat down to watch a movie. “How about… Sailor V: Return of the Moon?” she suggested. Darien’s pulse sped up. “Sure…” he popped in the movie, sitting down next to her. The opening credits flashed across the screen. Soon the movie started. Sailor V was running towards a school. Then it showed her fighting with a monster, alongside the other sailor scouts… The movie rolled on. It seemed very familiar. Maybe she had watched it before? Nah. Couldn’t be. Could it? She leaned against Darien. What was that? A very familiar smell lingered about him. It was sweet and faint. She liked it, but couldn’t quite place what it was. A thought flitted through her mind. She could almost remember sitting here, wondering about that smell before. “Have I seen this before?” she wondered aloud. Darien looked down at her happily. “Yes, you have! Try to remember Serena!” His heart was racing, like it would burst out of his chest. ‘What if she can’t? What if she never does?’ He held back the tears that came with such thoughts and looked at her again. Her eyes were closed and her face upturned in a gentle half-smile. She almost seemed to radiate light. His princess…. Serena closed her eyes and let her mind wander. It almost seemed to sink below a pool of water, trying to find the right level. Images flowed freely past her until she stopped. She reached out and grasped something. It was a slippery piece of paper. She looked at it as words came into view and memories hit her… “We’re in a boat…. Mirai Lake I think… We get out and I fall…. There’s a blank spot on the paper…” ‘Paper?’ Darien wondered. “We kiss…we go to… your house and…” her eyes open slowly in recognition. “We watch this movie!” She said triumphantly and smiled brightly, happy at remembering something new. Darien laughed and wrapped her in a warm hug, the movie forgotten. “Oh Serena…” he murmured, is face buried in her hair. His voice sent a little trill through her. As if their destinies were intertwined, something seemed to say. “BEEP BEEP BEEP!” “Huh?” Serena untangled herself from Darien. “I, I have to go to the bathroom for a minute.” She said, running into his bathroom. Serena closed the door and pulled out her communicator. “Serena! Get to the Bradley Museum, right away! We have at least four monsters here and one nega-influenced scum! Hurry!” Sailor Jupiter’s voice was gone. “You got it!” she flushed the toilet and ran some water for appearances and came out. “I have to go home for dinner Darien. I’ll see you latter ok?” she said. She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and stepped outside and around the corner. Darien followed silently and unseen, peeked around the corner. “MOON CRYSTAL POWER!” she cried and leapt out the window, hopping from rooftop to rooftop. ‘I’d better follow her…’ Darien thought, transforming into Tuxedo Mask. Serena finally stopped at the front doors of the museum. “Here goes…” she said aloud before reaching for the handle. “Wait Sailor Moon!” Came a familiar voice. She turned around slowly. “Tuxedo Mask?” she asked him. “You might need some help. This place is just reeking of negative energy!” he said as he grabbed the door handle. Darien pushed it inwards to reveal a dark room. It was empty except for a reception desk, and everything was eerily quiet. “Is it safe?” Sailor Moon asked quietly. “No, but we have to go in anyway. Come on.” He whispered, holding the door open for her. ‘Wow, Tuxedo Mask is so hot!’ Serena thought to herself. ‘Oh, but I like Darien now… Besides, Tuxedo Mask’s only around sometimes. Darien’s always there for me.’ The first room they entered focused on the structure of DNA strands. They walked slowly around the tall example structures that cast strange shadows around the room. Sailor Moon looked around in awe, not watching where she was going until she walked into a display case and fell to the ground. “Ow!” she whispered, trying to ignore the stinging. “Here, let me help you up.” Tuxedo Mask said, lifting her to her feet. “Uh, thanks.” She replied. ‘Why does that seem so familiar? Something just isn’t right with this situation…’ ‘Here, let me help you with that Serena…’ she remembered Darien saying that a few days ago. ‘Boy, he sounds a lot like Tuxedo Mask…’ she thought. ‘?!… No, it couldn’t be!’ Serena heard a moan from behind one of the structures. “Huh?” She peeked around it only to see the limp body of Sailor Jupiter. “Ah! Jupiter!” she fell to her knees and rolled her friend on her back. “Jupiter, speak to me! Jupiter, come on!” “Mmmm…. Sailor Moon?” Lita asked weakly, opening her eyes a little. “Jupiter, what happened?” “I beat it… follow the stairs. Mars is…” and she fell unconscious again. Serena bit her lip to hold back the tears and walked reluctantly up the stairs followed by a silent if remorseful Tuxedo Mask. It was much the same in the next three rooms; A bloody, battered sailor scout who soon fell unconscious. Serena was determined that whoever had done this would pay, Big Time. “Wait Sailor Moon.” Darien said softly, placing a hand on her shoulder before she went on. “Yes?” she asked, turning to face him. He looked worried and apprehensive… Very familiar also. Who was he? And why did he make her want to drop everything and hold him until he smiled again? Why did this feel so right, and yet, so wrong since she loved Darien? “If anything happens, I just want you to know…” he faltered. If he told her, would it be the same as her remembering? A thousand ‘what ifs’ ran through his mind. “Nothing will happen Tuxedo Mask. I’m just going to blast whatever did that to my friends, get them fixed up and go home. Everything will be fine.” She turned towards the door. “Oh, Serena…” he murmured under his breath, stepping forward to follow her. Serena froze. “Wha… What did you say?” Darien froze too. “Nothing. Nothing at all.” “You know who I am, don’t you?” she asked, slightly angry. Darien looked away. “Why didn’t you say anything? Do I know you?” How do you know who I am?” “It can wait.” Darien said sadly, not meeting her eyes. “For now, lets beat this nega-scum and help your friends ok?” Serena looked at him oddly, but nodded and gently pushed the door open. Like all the rooms before it, it was dark and empty seeming. But this room was different. It smelled funny, like rotting fruit. “Whoever you are, come out and FIGHT!” Something flashed in Serena’s memory. A faint image of someone falling and two burnt patches of grass. Something seemed to say she was better than this, she should use…. ‘Use what? Err…’ “Heeheeheehee…” came a low laugh from across the room. “I am Shi… I hurt you…Death…” A shadowy form in the corner stepped forward, opening two slit like eyes. It resembled a short, young boy, grossly deformed like he had been dipped in acid. His skin was peeling off in chunks, and he was a mess. He wore a black cloak, open at the front and a muddy red T-shirt and jeans. The ground burned beneath each of his stumbling steps forward, and he reeked of decay. Sailor Moon stepped forward and whipped out her scepter swinging it towards it’s intended target. “Moon, Scepter, ELIMINATION!” The boy disappeared, but reappeared a moment latter. “Heeheeheehee… You can not kill death, I am Shi…” he said in an insanely menacing tone. “What?” Serena pulled back, becoming a shade paler. “Tuxedo Mask, how can I kill him? He just came back!” ‘The crystal…’ he thought silently. “Sailor Moon, there are two ways to get rid of a negative being. Either kill it or heal it. You’ve got to remember if you want to save your friends!” ‘Come on Serena…’ The boy stepped closer. “I will kill you…” he hissed. “You have no choice…. And when you die, your friends will die too. Heeheeheehee…” he hissed. “Never!” Sailor Moon said defiantly. The boy reached inside his cloak and tugged on something until he was holding it just so she couldn’t see it. ‘I will torment her before she dies…’ he thought, his lips curling into some semblance of a ghoulish grin. He held the dagger as best he could before ripping his hand out of the cloak and hurling the blade at Tuxedo Mask. “Noooo!” Serena’s eyes went large, images flashing insubstantialy before her eyes. She was standing on a balcony and Tuxedo Mask was below her on the ground. He took off his hat and mask. ‘Darien?’ ‘Serena?’ ‘Sereeeeenaaa!’ She saw herself ram Tuxedo Mask to one side, but not before the blade of ice embedded itself in between his shoulder blades. “Noooo!” she screamed again as she regained sight. She held Tuxedo Mask to her chest, screaming and crying s the crescent moon on her forehead burst into existence in a wave of energy and light. Light swarmed around them, encircling them in the form of tiny stars of light glowing brighter than the sun. Serena swished her head violently towards the child. “Whomever did this to you is going down.” She paused as the crystal formed between her fingers. “COSMIC MOON POWER!” The stars of light joined together in the crystal and slammed all it’s power into the boy. It became so bright, she couldn’t see. When the light had gone and she opened her eyes, the boy was normal again and unconscious on the floor. She was Serena again and Darien lay across her lap. ‘Yes, Darien is… my fiancée, and…. Prince Darien! I remember now!’ she picked him up and carried him back to his apartment. The crystal had healed him again, and the other scouts too, but they had been awake and gone home on their own. She tucked him into his bed and sat down on the couch. She was exhausted… She put her feet up on the table, accidentally knocking over a small black box. ‘?’ She leaned over and opened the small object. Inside was a familiar silver band with a sparkling diamond on its center. “Oh! It’s… my ring!” she said aloud, eyes wide. She slipped it onto her finger. A perfect fit. ‘I’m so tired…’ and she promptly fell asleep. Darien woke up slowly. He was warm and comfortable in his bed. Something was wrong about that…. He slipped his mind back to the last thing he remembered. It was… Serena, No…. ‘Oh yeah, I was being stabbed.’ ‘STABBED?!’ He sat straight up and felt his chest. Nothing. No gaping wound, no scar, no knife… Serena must have healed him. Did she have the crystal back? Did she… love him again? He slipped out of bed and walked to the doorway, peeking outside. She was asleep on the couch. Something sparkly caught his eye on her finger and he walked closer to see what it was. What he saw, stopped him dead in his tracks. ‘The ring…’ A thousand thoughts passed through his head. He shoved them aside and sat down next to her, placing one arm around her shoulders. His princess was back again, finally. Darien smiled and jokingly considered running away with her. ‘Nah, the scout’s would track us down and play National Inquirer…’ he decided. He’d just have to wait… THE END! Ok, I admit it. I had this thing all written out for at least two years now, but I kind of lost the epilouge, so…. There isn’t one. Maybe it will misteriously appear at ASMR or something in a few monthss, but seriously, I have NO IDEA. Alright?
