Serena whispered, unbelievly. "I love you, Serena," Darien whispered. "You...you do?" He nodded. On impulse, she kissed him full on the lips. Darien was surprised, but then held her close to him and enjoyed the moment, just as Martha and David entered the room. "Oh, isn't that sweet!" Martha squeeled. "I just *have* to get the camera." She dashed off to the study and grabbed the camera. She came back into the room and took a picture. The flash of the camera brought Serena and Darien back from their own world of two, to the real world. "This time it wasn't under mistletoe, you two!" Martha said. Serena blushed furiously, as she stood up and cleared her throat. "I...I have to go now," she said as she ran up the stairs, two at a time. "What was that all about, son," David said as he sat down next to Darien. "Um...nothing," Darien said, flashing him a smile. "I've got some homework to do," he said as he left the room. "David," Martha said. "How can Darien have homework when it is the holidays?" "I don't know dear, I just don't know." When Serena had entered her room, she opened her diary and started writing it, but before that, she wrote on the brown paper (that was covering it) 'I Love Darien.' And repeated it all over. Dear Diary, The most fabulous and worst things happened today. I'll write about the good news first. I kissed Darien! I can't believe it, but I did, and it felt *so* good. He's a great kisser too. He said he loved me, and I absolutly love him to. Yep, I love him, and I was stupid not to realise it, but I love him with all my heart... At the same time, Darien was writing in his diary. December 22nd, I love her! I love her! I REALLY LOVE HER! She even kissed me, and it was like heaven. When I said I loved her, it felt like I had said it before, for some odd reason. I now have something to look forward to these holidays; Serena. Darien. After Darien had written in his diary, he decided to watch television in the rumpus. He noticed that Serena's door was closed. BRING BRING! The phone rang, and Darien answered it on the phone next to him. "Hello?" he said. "Serena? May I know who is speaking please...okay, hold on." he said. He covered the mouth piece with his hand and yelled, "Serena! It's for you!" Serena came out of her room, somewhat slowly, and took to phone from Darien. "Hello?" she said. "Mum! How are you...?" She was suddenly silent as she heard bad news over the phone. Darien was silently watching Serena, as her expression changed from happy to sad. "No..." Serena said. "Okay, bye." She put the phone down, and sat on the lounge, next to Darien. "I have to go back home," she said suddenly, staring at the floor. "Why?" Darien said. "My grandmother died, and I have to attend the funeral." "Oh...I'm sorry," Dairen said, softly. They sat in an uncomfortable silence for a while, as Serena prepared what she was going to say. "You know how you said you love me," she said, hesitantly. "Yes, I do." "I think it's best for us if we just are friends, and not have a relationship," she said, her eyes fixed to the floor. "But, why?" Darien said, sitting up. "I'll write to you everyday, I'll send you e-mails..." he pleaded. "No, Darien. We'll both just get hurt if we have a long-distance relationship." "No, that won't happen," Darien said, taking hold of her hands, forcing her to face him. "I love you, and I would never hurt you," he said. Serena stared at his love filled eyes. "That's what everyone says," she said, as she stood up. "It's best for both of us." She walked down to the family room and told Martha and Daivd the news. Early next morning, Martha and David drove Serena to the airport. "Thank you for everything," Serena said to Martha and David, giving them a hug. "It's a pity that you have to leave so early," Martha said. "Make sure you come back, okay." Serena nodded. "Say goodbye to Sam and Darien for me." "We will," David said. "Have a safe trip and merry Cristmas." "Merry Cristmas and thanks again." She took her hand luggage and went to board her plane. She sat in her seat, and looked for her medication in her small bag she had, but she found something else. A small package and a red rose. She opened the pack and there was a necklace with a rose above a cresent moon as the pendant. There also was a note that read: Dear Serena, I'll never forget you, and I will write to you always, no matter what. Please don't forget me, and always wear this necklace. Merry Cristmas and a happy new year. I love you, Darien. Serena took the necklace and attached it around her neck. She read the note again, and smiled sadly as she realised their hidden love. THE END Oh no! It's ended! Well, yes it has ended, but I *do* have other ideas to write a HIDDEN LOVE II. If you want to see if they ever get together, e-mail me, and I'll write a Hidden Love II.
